If you're a fan of the frazzled comic rhythms Debra Messing plies on Will & Grace, or if you're pre-sold on the concept of Dermot Mulroney as the world's most dashing heartthrob--an idea given ample evidence here--this escapist romance may provide just enough distraction. The Wedding Date's Pretty Woman-in-reverse plot finds Kat Kat Ellis (Messing) hiring expensive male escort Nick Mercer (Mulroney) to fly to London and pose as her dashing new boyfriend at her sister's wedding so she can face the best man, an ex-fiancé who broke her heart. Non-fans of the stars or romantic comedies in general beware: there's no real chemistry or conflict, and you should alert the media if you can determine exactly when and why Kat and Nick fall in love. Mulroney has nothing to do but be sensitively suave--the film's entire running time is spent waiting for Kat to realize that Nick, hooker or no, is the best thing that ever happened to her (her father may be cinema's first dad to ever encourage his daughter to snare a gigolo while she still can). This is a relatively painless but forgettable first Date; you probably won't need a second assignation.--Steve Wiecking

it was a christmas gift for my mother and she loves watching it if anyone likes comedy slapstick funny then this is quite a must have!!

The Amazon editorial review says it all really. This film begs comparison with 'Pretty Woman', but where Richard Gere is charming, Julia Roberts irrisistable and the pair together had real chemistry, Dermot Mulroney is the Robert Stack of the new millennium, as wooden as they come, and there is no chemistry whatsoever generated between him and Debra Messing. This makes it impossible to suspend disbelief that the plot is utterly ridiculous. If you need a movie to keep you out of the rain, this'll do it, but it won't generate the lasting affection of 'Pretty Woman.'

This movie is cute - up to a point. There are a few good laughs with the whole male escort plot. I gave it only three stars because, after a while, you just get sick of the characters. They're obviously made for a female audience. Debra Messing's character (Kat) is so needy and pathetic, while Dermot Mulroney (Nick) is portrayed as the perfect guy. Jeffery, the ex, is pure slime. Come on! Is this really how people behave? The movie even seems to allude to this, with one of the characters asking whether Nick has any flaws, and Kat saying none. Maybe if the characters had been a bit more interesting this movie would have gotten more stars.

Kat Ellis is looking for the right man. NOW. The position comes with a few requirements: willingness to travel, keen social skills, good looks, suave demeanor, sharp mind--and a tux. The qualified candidate should also have the ability to make ex-boyfriends jealous, to turn heads whenever entering a room and to reduce any woman within eye-and earshot to a week-kneed besotted admirer. Dermont is here. Not only was the leading man in this film amazing(along with a few other cast members), this story is one that leaves you happy mood and wanting to go see it again. It combines the perfect amount of humour, passion/love, and happieness. This movie is one that you definately should go and see.
