Amazon.com According to his sleek nemesis Miss Parker (Andrea Parker), Jarod (Michael T. Weiss) is "a genius who can become anyone that he wants to be." As the second season begins, he's still on the run and her father, Mr. Parker (Harve Presnell, Fargo), is still missing. In his place, the Centre has installed the smooth Mr. Lyle (Jamie Denton, Desperate Housewives) and his associate Brigitte (Pamela Gidley, whose British accent will soon disappear). In the premiere episode ("Back From the Dead Again"), it will also be revealed that Mr. Raines (Richard Marcus, 24) survived last season's assassination attempt. A few episodes later ("Exposed"), Mr. Parker will return, but by then Miss Parker won't be so sure he's really her father. Then again, nothing on The Pretender is ever what it seems... Throughout the 22-episode season, Jarod's "pretends" will range from firefighter ("Over the Edge") to FBI Agent ("A Stand Up Guy")--even male escort ("Gigolo Jarod"). Along the way, he'll catch up on some of the childhood staples he missed, like Jell-O and Twinkies (both of which he'll use against the bad guys). Meanwhile, Sydney (Patrick Bauchau) will reunite with his twin brother, only to lose him again ("Indy Show," featuring a cameo from Mario Andretti). Other pivotal episodes include "Bulletproof," in which Sydney meets up with another figure from his past, "Crash," in which Mr. Lyle's true identity is revealed, and double-length season finale "Bloodlines" (featuring Haley Joel Osment as a potential pretender), in which Miss Parker finds out she has a brother. Alas, it's either the psychotic Mr. Lyle or Angelo (Paul Dillon), the Centre's idiot savant or, as she calls him, "Cousin It." The second season ends with a cliffhanger as a bomb goes off in the Centre--just as Jarod is trying to make his escape. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Gain Some, Lose Some February 13, 2010 Kevin L. Nenstiel (Kearney, Nebraska) After a fleeting glimpse of his family, Jared flees into even deeper cover. But the conspiracies at The Centre have become even more intricate. The hunters find that they are now also hunted, allies are hard to come by, and evil proves itself to be extremely charming in the person of Mr. Lyle, one of the creepiest TV villains in many a long year.
The Pretender's second season adds some good traits, but it also loses a little. There is a sense that the characters have more at stake than in the past. Jared's pursuit of his family is no longer abstract, since he knows his mother is still alive. And Miss Parker's team has a lot more riding on their pursuit, since The Centre is in upheaval and they've been cut out of the internal politics.
But the parts of this story which focus on The Centre start to get really inward-turning. The characters occasionally lose sight of their pursuit. The internal mechanics of The Centre become very soap-operatic, and it often seems as though the series is maintaining two parallel narratives that occasionally shake hands, instead of intertwining. It sometimes gets tiring.
On the whole, I recommend this season to all fans of the first season. But I don't recommend getting started with this one, because it assumes you're already familiar with what's going on. It remains fun, with the same wry humor and tension, but sometimes it risks becoming too cool for the room.
We just like this show January 30, 2010 Mr. Jolley (Texas, USA) If you like positive shows that don't have alot of crap in them, then you might like this show. However, those that like the "reality" TV might not find this entertaining because it doesn't have enough drama.
A MUST SEE January 22, 2010 Television Addict (Queensland, AU) I cannot recommend this series highly enough!!!
It boasts a superb cast, is action packed with excellent twists and gripping story lines that leaves you wanting more.
They dont make great stuff like this any more.
Enjoy
Good stuff December 28, 2009 Hilary Walton We enjoyed The Pretender very much when it was on the air, and we were disappointed when it was cancelled. It's nice to have access to the show via DVD recordings. Jarod is a real "good guy" and goes around helping other people while carrying out his quest to find his family, all the while evading thugs from The Centre.
This is a good show for depicting good versus evil, and overall, it's a decent family program. There are a few 'adult situations' but those will often go over the heads of younger children. For the most part, the whole Pretender series is fun, exciting, often humorous, and gratifying. Each episode has elements of redemption. Good is vindicated, and the bad guys get justice. Two thumbs up!
loved the series November 18, 2009 Kristi Gabriel Loved all the series. Always had a morale to it. I still will pull it out to watch.
