Amazon.com Following the flop of Little Nicky, Adam Sandler returned to safe territory in Mr. Deeds... and made Nicky look inspired by comparison. A loose remake of Frank Capra's 1936 classic Mr. Deeds Goes to Town, this dumbed-down version finds Sandler in the Gary Cooper role, inheriting a vast fortune and a corporate empire, foiling a greedy executive (Peter Gallagher), and winning the heart of an undercover reporter (Winona Ryder) who's been mocking his small-town naiveté in print while falling for his goodhearted sincerity. It's fun enough to satisfy Sandler's loyal fans--and John Turturro's a hoot as Deeds's foot-fetishist butler--but the subtleties of Capra are lost on Sandler, director Steven Brill, and writer Tim Herlihy. While Gary Cooper portrayed a rube who was savvy about big-city cynicism, Sandler's an amiable goofball with a heart of gold and an empty skull. You can admire him, and parts of the movie (including Steve Buscemi's unbilled cameo), but you have to work harder to get there. --Jeff Shannon

ah, i love the actors in this movie. January 31, 2010 Lyudmila P. Vorobyev (ca) i love this movie, its funny and sweeet. and the song by Weezer is my fav.
america's critic September 11, 2009 David R. Lingard (memphis tn) this was funny the storyline was ok but adam sandler is a great comedian and actor great movie
Grate July 7, 2009 Jimmy Barahona Product was in excellent condition delivered on time very good seller. If needed I will defiantly purchase from him again
Longfellow Deeds is one lucky guy... May 7, 2009 Eric S. Kim (Southern California) Basically, good-hearted Longfellow Deeds (Sandler) is the heir to his uncle's mansion, and he moves from New Hampsire to New York City, where the mansion is clearly located. Winonda Ryder is Babe Bennett, a reporter who disguises herself in order to get a good story for the tabloids.
I wouldn't say that this Sandler comedy is as great as, say, Billy Madison or The Waterboy. It is actually lighter in tone, and has a more delicate storyline. It's still a good comedy, though, just not as funny as the older Sandler flicks. It's more of a heartfelt experience rather than a laugh-out-loud comedy. It makes you feel good when it ends. That's not necessarily a bad thing: I prefer happy endings when it comes to comedies.
I give this a B. It's a good, but not great, movie from Sandler.
packaging is a little ghetto... March 15, 2009 nitpat im pretty sure i bought a 'used' condition of this dvd, but i was hoping the packaging would be a little more sturdy. i had hoped to give it as a present but since it looked a little flimsy i opted to buy a new copy of the dvd for the gift, and kept this one for myself. haven't watched it yet, hopefully it's not scratched!
