Product Description After suffering a career-ending injury a college football player teams up with a leading bookie, until the bookie becomes too controling. Genre: Feature Film-Comedy Rating: R Release Date: 6-FEB-2007 Media Type: DVD
Amazon.com Two for the Money has a formidable cast: Al Pacino, Matthew McConaughey, and Rene Russo (Get Shorty) play compulsive personalities caught up in the high-testosterone world of sports betting. Brandon Lang (McConaughey, Sahara), a once-promising football player sidelined by an injury, has an uncanny knack for totting up the statistics and personalities involved in any football game and picking the winner. But he doesn't gamble himself: He offers tips via a phone line. His string of successful picks attracts the attention of Walter Abrams (Pacino, The Godfather, Dog Day Afternoon), a man building a media empire on sports tips, even though he himself can only resist his own gambling addiction thanks to the fierce devotion of his wife, Toni (Russo, Tin Cup, Get Shorty). Brandon swiftly becomes Walter's protege and transforms into an aggressive, high-risk salesman, even going so far as to change his name to create a new self. But when Brandon starts to think of his knack as magic, everything Walter has built around his golden boy starts to teeter. Two for the Money starts with punchy dialogue and razzle-dazzle acting, but midway it starts to founder; the characters never quite feel real, the plot grows labored and implausible, and the basic themes--gambling, addiction--turn vague and fuzzy. The actors have charisma to burn, but they can't overcome an unfocused script. Also featuring Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Armand Assante (The Mambo Kings), and Jaime King (Bulletproof Monk). --Bret Fetzer

Needed this February 1, 2010 Letta S. Neely (Boston, MA) This dvd is great. I was craving those 2 actors and the dvd arrived just in time. I enjoyed myself
Two for the Money January 3, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) Former college football star, Brandon Lane's uncanny ability to predict the outcome of a game introduces him to an unexpected new career when his gridiron glory is sidelined by a crushing injury. Brandon's talent makes him a prime candidate for recruitment by Walter Abraham, the head of one of the biggest sports consulting operations in the country. This movie it's a compelling drama.
Two for the Money July 14, 2009 lagseller (Homewood, Alabama USA) I love all Al Pacino movies but with Matthew and Renee it was excellent! I know nothing about sports but I was drawn in and understood the whole movie. I was never in the dark about the sports betting industry, even though I didn't know it existed.
PACINO PLAYS IT AGAIN--SAME December 1, 2008 W. ADAM MANDELBAUM (NY United States) Take equal parts WALL STREET and THE RECRUIT,sprinkle with DEVIL'S ADVOCATE and you pretty much have this movie. Entertaining? Sure. Worth a DVD rental or the $3.99 buy price I got it for? Absolutely. But--Pacino has been playing the same evil daddy role for ten years prior to the release date of this movie. Devil's Advocate, Recruit, etc. It's more like a third rate stand up impersonator doing his Pacino bit. Armand Assante as the high roller living in Puerto Rico? See him in Gotti, see him in One Eyed Kings, and you know what--you've seen his act here too. Can't these guys show a little variation? Apparently, they are content to pick up their checks and phone it in. Ms. Russo, wife of the Pacino character, looks more like a badly made up transvestite, than a potential love interest. Wonder if she got the part because she was married to the guy who wrote the screenplay? (Or whoever the hell she was married to). The ending was dull, not downbeat, and the morale of the story is, um, er... gee... don't bet your picks, or don't go into the sports advisory business, or maybe, go into it but don't hang with a boss that does a third rate Pacino impersonation. Pick one--just don't bet on it.
INTERESTING FILM, BUT FLAWED! 3 1/2 STARS! August 24, 2007 ! MR. KNOW IT ALL ;-b (TRI STATE AREA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pacino and McConaughey are very good in this tale about men who predict the outcome of sports events and the morons who believe someone can do this! If you don't like gambling & profanity don't watch this movie! The DVD transfer is very good.
