    Product Description
An island off the Oregon coast is the setting for this salty yarn of ghosts, lepers, betrayal, vengeance, and teen angst. A fog-enshrouded schooner from 1865 returns from the bottom of the sea to wreak vengeance on the locals of the island, and it's up to local DJ Stevie Wayne (Selma Blair), her charter-boat-captain lover, Nick (Tom Welling, from TV's SMALLVILLE), and his wayward girlfriend, Elizabeth (Maggie Grace, from TV's LOST), to save the day. All three are related to the town's founding fathers, with whom the shipbound ghosts have an ancient score to settle. What that score is no one seems to know, but they need to find out, fast. DeRay Davis (BARBERSHOP) provides comic relief as Nick's lusty first mate, but the real scene stealer here is the fog itself, which is much more animated than in the 1980 John Carpenter original. Thanks to some nice CGI work, it slithers in, around, and under everything. Though gussied up with an angst-rock soundtrack and beautiful young TV actors, THE FOG is, at heart, a good old fashioned ghost story, replete with period costumes and inter-dimensional romance. Director Rupert Wainwright (STIGMATA) is good at capturing little details like the eerie tinkling of deep-sea fishing hooks hung out to dry, the textures of moisture-beaded shower stall doors, and the perfectly toned skin of lead actress Grace as she wanders around in her negligee. John Carpenter and his partner, Debra Hill--co-creators of the first FOG--served as producers.

    5 out of 5 stars "A Worthy Remake"   May 9, 2009
Terry Richard (Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada)
Despite what critics and fans have said about "The Fog", this film is a great remake of a classic horror film. It isn't Oscar material, but what scary movie is. It is meant to be fun and campy and I actually enoyed it. I will also admit I am a huge fan of Tom Welling, and there is a great scene in the film where he takes his shirt off: that is worth the price of the movie.
The film basically follows the same plot as the original in which a huge fog bank descends upon Antonio Bay and all hell breaks loose. Lots of surprise elements are included, and there were many times I jumped while watching it.
The DVD has some great bonuses, including commentary by the director, deleted scenes, and a great documentary on remaking a classic.
When the new version of "The Fog" came out in 2006 it debut at #1 at the boxoffice, eventually accumulating a gross of over 26 million dollars: someone liked it!
Sit back, make some popcorn and enjoy a great, scary film.

    3 out of 5 stars This isn't that bad   May 6, 2009
The Tao of Netflix (Washington, DC)
I like this movie. Obviously, I'm a huge fan of the original Fog and I saw this one at the theater; I hated it there, but somehow found myself buying it. Since, I have come to really enjoying this movie, but not in its entirety. I'm one of those who can watch select scenes of a movie and be very satisfied. This is clearly one of those. It gets progressively worse near the end, and that's unfortunate. However, it has a lot of elements i really enjoy - a coastal movie, some decent horror (albeit not really scary), a lot of night scenes, etc. So enjoy it for the few good scenes.

3 out of 5 stars The Fog is Back!!!   March 4, 2009
    PUMPKIN MAN
This time, John Carpenter and Debra Hill helped produce the remake of their horror classic. Also, it seems more for teenagers than for adults. The original seemed like an adult horror movie, rather than teens, because they get Tom Welling to play Nick Castle, Maggie Grace, and DeRay Davis to appeal to younger viewers. I wanted to watch the original and the remake back-to-back, and I think the original is better because it's scarier. This one is okay. Some people may find it boring. If you like remakes, you might like THE FOG!!!

2 out of 5 stars When The Fog Rolls In, So Does The Tedium   February 22, 2009
    darklordzden (Australia)
Bit of an oddity, this. I'm still trying to work out why anyone would a) want to remake John Carpenter's 1980 classic and b) more importantly, why they wouldn't try and rework the premise a bit more - ala the excellent 'Dawn Of The Dead' remake, which, in my humble and probably blasphemous opinion, actually surpasses the original. As it stands, what you get are the standard nods to modern tokenism (everyone is young and beautiful, the soundtrack is full of contemporary modern music and there is much more of an accent on CGI) and some decent camerawork. Some fairly decent production values ensure that it's not a terrible film by any stretch of the imagination, but it's just not a particularly interesting one either. Its also not remotely scary, which is a major failing in any modern horror film and what small atmosphere it does build up deflates like a limp balloon when the crew of the `Elizabeth Dane' make their definitive appearance and turn out to be less scary than the ghost pirates from those truly dreadful 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' movies or a villain from an episode of the original series of 'Scooby Doo'. That said, Selma Blair does appear in a rather fetching pair of panties and some of the fog effects are quite nice, but it's not a patch on Carpenter's spine-chilling, 'less is more' original.

I got the DVD well before the time expected. It was in excellent condition and played beautiful. No problems with buying or receiving the package. I would definitely recommend this seller.
