Product Description A DRAMA ABOUT A FATHER WHO, FOR THE LOVE OF HIS DAUGHTER, SACRIFICES ALMOST EVERYTHING TO SAVE THE LIFE OF AN INJURED RACEHORSE AND BRING THE PROMISING FILLY BACK TO HER FORMER GLORY. INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY.
Amazon.com The title is a mouthful, but Dreamer: Inspired by a True Story hits the winner's circle as a warm and inspiring family film. Ben Crane (Kurt Russell) is a Kentucky horse trainer who watches in horror as a championship filly breaks its leg during a practice run. Ordinarily that means curtains, but today Ben's daughter, Cale (Dakota Fanning), is at the track, and Ben impulsively buys the horse and loses his job in one fell swoop. The rehabilitation process is almost too much for a farm that's already struggling to survive in a modern economy, but the horse turns out to be a much-needed salve to the nearly broken family, including Ben's wife (Elisabeth Shue) and father (Kris Kristofferson). The cast is excellent, especially Fanning (who at age 11 has become a major star and was branded by Entertainment Weekly as the most powerful actress in Hollywood), and the film is well-paced by director-writer John Gatins and beautifully shot by cinematographer Fred Murphy. Surely the ultimate fate of the horse and the family won't surprise anyone, but young girls who love horses often don't need a surprise ending. They need a reason to cheer, and Dreamer delivers all the way. (Ages 6 and older: moments of horse peril) --David Horiuchi

Dreamer- for days when you need a lift May 13, 2009 C. Towler A fun, kid-safe film about a young girl's love for an injured racing mare, and what her family will do to help prove that mare's quality. A little deep sometimes for kids and a little sweet for adults, this film doesn't quite fit anyplace and so has been overlooked, but is worth a look when you need something cheerful and simple.
Say 'Yes' to buying this. February 2, 2009 Lynn (Ohio) For those of us who never deserted the horse-love stage of our lives, this movie is a must. For children who are still in that stage of growing, another must. For MEN, yes, even the ones who run from any movie which may be mildly scented as a chick-flix, you really need to see this movie. Do it in mixed company or alone but do it. More than one male aquaintance has borrowed this DVD to show to someone else. It is not suprising how every one of them commented positively about the content. It is much more than a horse story. The fences mended here father-son relationships, father-child, husband-wife, rational brain & compassionate soul. Kurt Russell & Kris Kristofferson are the best in the son/father roles.
Great kid movie! January 6, 2009 Dana Batterson (IA, USA) This is a great family movie about faith, love, and hope. Our entire family loves it!
Dreamer is a Great inspirational movie November 22, 2008 Deanna Jill Beckstedt I used this with my women's group, some of whom had become discouraged from illnesses and accidents. It really lifted them up!
Review of Dreamers October 24, 2008 Valerie Garner I really loved this movie. If you liked Seabiscuit this is a movie you're sure to enjoy. Many times stories based upon true stories can be more interesting than fiction. I loved the reality that showed discouragement, loneliness, doubt and yet at the same time hope, courage, winning against all odds on several fronts and the belief and empowering of one's child. Great story that leaves you feeling good afterwards.
