Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick, Personal Velocity) isn't about making friends, she's about getting results. Days after her transfer from Atlanta, the LAPD's Priority Homicide Division decides they can't work with the blunt-talking Southern belle. Fortunately, she has former CIA colleague, Assistant Police Chief Will Pope (J.K. Simmons, Spider-Man), on her side. As he explains to Captain Taylor (Robert Gossett), who she has just replaced, "She is not miss congeniality...but she's a closer." Set to the sound of urban blues, TNT's The Closer is Columbo by way of Prime Suspect. In other words, Johnson may be as messy as Oscar Madison, but she's as sharp as Sherlock Holmes. Throughout the first season, she'll solve 13 murders, including those of a reclusive mathematician, a Russian prostitute, and a British butler. She won't get much support from her colleagues, except for Sergeant David Gabriel (Corey Reynolds, Broadway's Hairspray)--to the consternation of his co-workers, like Detective Lieutenants Provenza (G.W. Bailey, M*A*S*H) and Flynn (Tony Denison, Melrose Place). Johnson also has a friend in FBI Special Agent Fritz Howard (Jon Tenney, You Can Count on Me). With his help, she'll eventually settle into her new environment, especially when she lands a house and a cat on the same day (conveniently left behind by a victim). Just as it takes awhile for the chief to grow on her squad--and to get used to driving in LA--Sedgwick's Golden Globe-nominated performance follows a similar trajectory. Fortunately, "Scarlett O'Hara," as the droll Provenza dubs her, becomes more fully-rounded as the season progresses, aided by a superb SAG Award-nominated ensemble cast. Consulting producer on The Closer is former LA District Attorney Gil Garcetti of O.J. infamy. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Disc Issues February 5, 2010 Lynn Powell I love the Closer, however two out of the four discs couldn't be read in my player. Luckily I could watch them on my laptop or I would have had to return it. The Closer dvd's I purchased in the store work fine. Amazon is a lower price, bear in mind the discs may not work.
Fantastic show! December 29, 2009 Stefanie (Portland, OR) The Closer is a fantastic show - similar to many of the other police shows on tv, it deals with the horror of the violent side of life and death in LA. It is unique in its portrayal of a tough, honest, and supremely-motivated homicide investigator, Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick). Johnson is a compelling character - as her squad and viewers quickly find out. Well worth watching all the seasons of this excellent show!
The Closer Season 1 August 7, 2009 Sherrie Daniels (Everett, WA) I started watching this show on tv this year based on a friend's recommendation and felt I needed to know more about this show. I bought Season 1 and now want to get them all. It is a great show. I plan on getting the other seasons as my budget allows. I would say this would be great with commentaries. Having deleted scenes are a plus.
Too Annoying August 6, 2009 Balktoroth (New York) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am not giving this series 1 star only because the stories therein are not completely lost. I don't watch much TV, only when someone else is watching TV and I am just hanging out. I caught this a few times, and I can clasify this as a comedy.
Why a comedy? Kyra Sedgwick's character reminds me of a bobblehead doll with a short fuse. It seems like she may become the perp at any given time. She is a hotheaded blonde with an annoying voice. Her voice is gruff and she kind of reminds me of a man, not all the time 'but what a masculine woman' comes to mind at times. It's hit or miss really, her character just does not strike me as very feminine. This character has a lot to do with my rating of the show because when I had first seen this, I realized that she was in it a lot then comcluded that she is the main character which stricken me with disbelief.
This is a comedy because I laugh every time she completely blows her lid at someone she is interogating, she does not just yell, her blood vessels just about pop out of her bobblehead and her eyes look like they are going to pop out of their sockets. Goodness, what a firecracker this one is. This is vaguely entertaining, considering the fact that this person who I cannot take seriously on this show is having a yelling spell at a perp, to the point of vehement angst. Can't blame her for making her job personal.
If you are into comedy I would suggest this, but other than that stay away.
The Closer July 9, 2009 I. Buhl This is a great series. Kyra Sedwyck is wonderful in this show. Worth the money.
