Product Description PITCH BLACK CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK:DARK FURY
Amazon.com Pitch Black Owing a major debt to Alien and its cinematic spawn, Pitch Black is a guilty pleasure that surpasses expectations. As he did with The Arrival, director David Twohy revitalizes a derivative story, allowing you to forgive its flaws and submit to its visceral thrills. Under casual scrutiny, the plot's logic crumbles like a stale cookie, but it's definitely fun while it lasts. A spaceship crashes on a desert planet scorched under three suns. The mostly doomed survivors include a resourceful captain (Radha Mitchell), a drug-addled cop (Cole Hauser), and a deadly prisoner (Vin Diesel) who quickly escapes. These clashing personalities discover that the planet is plunging into the darkness of an extended eclipse, and it's populated by hordes of ravenous, razor-fanged beasties that only come out at night. The body count rises, and Pitch Black settles into familiar sci-fi territory. What sets the movie apart is Twohy's developing visual style, suggesting that this veteran of B-movie schlock may advance to the big leagues. Like the makers of The Blair Witch Project, Twohy understands the frightening power of suggestion; his hungry monsters are better heard than seen (although once seen, they're chillingly effective), and Pitch Black gets full value from moments of genuine panic. Best of all, Twohy's got a well-matched cast, with Mitchell (so memorable with Ally Sheedy in High Art) and Diesel (Pvt. Caparzo from Saving Private Ryan) being the standouts. The latter makes the most of his muscle-man role, and his character's development is one more reason this movie works better than it should. --Jeff Shannon Dark Fury - The Chronicles of Riddick (Animated) Taking a page from The Animatrix, Dark Fury is part of a new trend of bridging theatrical sequels. As an official product of a franchise, the 35-minute anime benefits from having the original actors voice the characters, including Vin Diesel as Riddick. This story opens with the new action hero and the two other survivors of Pitch Black already caught by a giant spaceship filled with dread. The sinewy leader has a unique--and creepy--jail for master villains and she has her sights set on Riddick. The film--indeed the series--is indebted to animator Peter Chung, who brings his techno style from his Aeon Flux series. His smooth animation for Riddick doesn't reinvent the character as much as give him a new, appealing fluidity. As anime goes, there's nothing really new here--plenty of action, cool killers, and dramatic spurts of blood--but it's a building block for how this genre might enliven movie series and sequels in the future. --Doug Thomas

riddick June 24, 2009 Judy L. Zaragoza (bay area ca) great movie, like the riddick series and if you like vin deisel this is a good movie.
Good sequel June 23, 2009 James Hinshaw (Riverside, CA) This sequel to "Pitch Black" has always been underrated. The filmmakers did not make the same monster movie as Pitch Black, instead making a film where people are the bad guys (much like a Star Trek film). This movie looks absolutely AMAZING in Blu-Ray! Much thought and imagination in the sets and costumes. The best part of the film for me takes place in an underground prison. Overall, if you like Sci-Fi I think you will like this film, and it will definitely show off your hi-def system - both in picture and sound.
I saw it before, but never like that... May 25, 2009 Luc Belec (Florida) I will not talk about the actor or the wonderfull acting montage or effect. Some did it for me... I saw the mouvie on tv before but in 1080p 16:9 dbx 5.1 upscale 7.1 3000w system ouff. this is a nice, most have ACTION Sci fi. Man! I love that trilogie who connect the dot in between movies. Plus I love the japonise Americanize anime. I did like the movie now I LOVE-IT. Get-it and see-it again for the first-time.... All inclued this time. Now I have to go see it again for a second first time. Don't werry and get-it too.

Premise *A spaceship crashes on a desolate planet which has three different suns. The survivors (including Riddick (Vin Diesel), a convicted killer) try to find a way off of the planet. But when a total solar eclipse occurs, nocturnal alien monsters come up and prey on them. The Good Things *Video quality is perfect; all of the scenes look fresh, detailed, and clean. The special effects really shine, too! Sound quality is good. *Includes a couple of commentaries, a number of featurettes, some exclusive picture-in-picture features, some interactive features (Toombs' chase log, virtual guide, and stuff like that), and the U-control features. *Includes both the theatrical and unrated cuts of the movie. *The movie has excellent photography, and is very quickly-paced. *Includes a huge amount of special effects, all of which look great enough to rival "Star Wars." *Has a lot of slick action and stunt scenes. *Production design is great. Locations, sets, props, and costumes are all elaborate and phenomenal (kind-of like "Dune"). *Acting is good. *Music is okay. The Bad Things *In retrospect, I do have to say that the writing, story, and characters are not as well-developed as they were in "Pitch Black." *Many scenes (especially action scenes) are fast-cut and chaotic. It can be hard to watch. The Questionable Things *The "Riddick: Dark Fury" cartoon is not included (nor is it on the "Pitch Black" disc). Most people probably don't care. I always thought of "Pitch Black" as just being okay, but its sequel appeals to me much better. As a sci-fi action/adventure film, it is very exciting from beginning to end. The story is not wholly original, but it works. Characters/acting/writing are not as great as they were in "Pitch Black," but they work well enough too. Altogether, I found this to be quite enjoyable, and the Blu-Ray disc does it incredible justice.
