Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com The Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature offers both Pet Detective and When Nature Calls in anamorphic widescreen with soundtracks in Dolby 5.1 and (not indicated on the packaging) DTS. The original DVD of Pet Detective was full-screen (1.33 aspect ratio) only, though it had a scene with Ace masquerading as Hans Kissvelvet, the dolphin trainer, that was dropped from the theatrical release. The deluxe edition is missing this scene. The deluxe edition also has a third disc with three episodes (about 70 minutes total) from the 1995-96 Ace Ventura animated series with Michael Hall as the voice of Ace. --David Horiuchi Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was the 1994 box-office hit that turned comedy maniac Jim Carrey into Hollywood's first $20-million man. This gag-filled no-brainer stars Carrey as the titular rubber-faced gumshoe who tracks down lost pets for his heartbroken clients. Ace's latest case involves the apparent kidnapping of the Miami Dolphins' team mascot, Snowflake the dolphin (natch), and his investigation is a source of constant irritation for Miami police lieutenant Lois Einhorn (Sean Young). Friends fans will appreciate the presence of Courtney Cox, who remains admirably straight-faced as the Dolphins' publicist and Ace's would-be girlfriend, but of course it's Carrey who steals the show with shameless abandon. --Jeff Shannon In When Nature Calls, the inevitable sequel, the disappearance of a rare African white bat, draws Ace (Carrey again) out of his spiritual retreat at a Tibetan monastery following the tragic outcome of his previous case. That traumatic experience, which makes for a hilarious opening-scene send-up of the Stallone thriller Cliffhanger, prompts Ace to venture to Africa, where he goes native with the tribe that hired him to find their symbolic bat. From that point anything goes, with Carrey pushing the boundaries of good taste (what, you were expecting good taste?) up to and including his now-infamous "birth" scene from the backside of a mechanical rhinoceros. Lighten up, and don't be ashamed if you find yourself laughing. --Jeff Shannon

Ace Ventura Double Feature April 19, 2009 Carole S. Coleman (Midwest, USA) Good Clean Entertainment. Jim Carrey at his best. Ace Ventura has a big heart and is a fun character to watch. Animals add a giggle to the movie and the movie plots are easy to follow. Great movies to watch with whole family.
Very Enjoyable! April 6, 2009 H. Green The Ace Ventura:Pet Detective movies are absolutely histerical! The cost was low, value was high!
Quick Thoughts About Each Film... March 23, 2009 Zachary Koenig (Fergus Falls, MN) Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (*****): The peak of Jim Carrey at his comedic best; perhaps only "Dumb and Dumber" is funnier. Will easily crack your top-five comedies of all-time. Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (*): A complete farce in every sense. Was rushed to theaters, thus the jokes/gags were terrible, and Carrey's performance is not his own (actually TOO wild). Avoid at all costs!
My absolute favorite Jim Carrey movies, but... March 1, 2009 Damon Smith (USA) The guy that did the review below me is right. They left out the most hilarious scene in the Pet Detective movie. I may have to buy the original seperatly for that one scene. Although When Nature Calls is fine, nothing wrong with that movie. But be warned if you buy the deluxe edition. Because on Pet Dective, Ace is doing a russian impression on the reporters about the dolphin and its funny as hell. But some reason they left that part out in the deluxe edition. At first I thought that they might have just put it in the special features but I was wrong, all it has is the Commentary by director Tom Shadyac, threatical trailer and TV spots. I feel sort of riped off but I guess that was my stupid choice for choosing to buy the Deluxe Double Feature. Only good thing about it is that it comes with When Nature Calls and 3 animated TV shows by Ace Ventura. But its not even Jim Carrey who does the voice for the 3 cartoons. Some other guy, but the animated shows are still good. Old school 90s animation too. At least The Deluxe Double Feature was only $20 bucks at boarders book store. I was searching all over for the Pet Detective movie but could only find When Nature Calls, but I saw one copy left of the Deluxe Double Feature. So I decided to just buy that one, and after I watch the movies, I was surprised they left that scene out from the first movie. Your best bet for finding Pet Detective might either have to be on amazon.com or ebay. Maybe if you are lucky at a local store but thats like 3 out of 100. When Nature Calls is like 50 out of a 100 chances of buying the single DVD in a regular store. Despite the mistake I made for buying the Deluxe Edition, these Jim Carrey movies are my absolute favorites. Jim Carrey's humor may have changed these days but I still think he keeps it pretty decent and all his movies are enjoyable enough to buy on DVD for keeps. I know most of you Jim Carrey fans maybe dissapointed in his latest movies that he has been in because his humor may not be the same to you, but Jim Carrey just likes to try different things. He said so himself on a interview. But I must admit, the old school Jim Carrey movies will remain classics and maybe even historical funny moments for some of you and myself. Thats how Jim Carrey's movies are always addicting to watch more than any other actor out there. Its his strange hilarious sense of humor. His movies are like crack to some of us. Can never get enough of his jokes and comedy. These 2 movies are some of his best work if you want to know more about Jim Carrey.
