Product Description Bluray Disc
Amazon.com Old pro Shirley MacLaine steals her every scene in Rumor Has It..., a very curiously conceived comedy directed by Rob Reiner (When Harry Met Sally..., The Princess Bride). Sarah (Jennifer Aniston, The Good Girl) arrives at her sister's wedding with her fiance Jeff (Mark Ruffalo, 13 Going on 30). She's already feeling anxiety-ridden about her impending marriage when she gleans from some odd hints from her grandmother Katherine (MacLaine, The Apartment, Terms of Endearment) that her family was the basis for the movie The Graduate. Quicker that you can say "Mrs. Robinson" she slips away from Jeff to investigate, suspecting that the guy Dustin Hoffman's character was based on--Beau Burroughs (Kevin Costner, Tin Cup)--might be her actual father...well, from there the plot takes a few twists, but this is not a movie that succeeds based on its story (which never really becomes persuasive). Instead, Rumor Has It... rests on the surprisingly complex and mature emotional interactions between the characters (particularly given that it's a movie about someone refusing to make choices in her life). Aniston won't win any awards for this, but she certainly gives her role more depth than a typical romantic comedy heroine; Costner and Ruffalo are both in fine form; and MacLaine appears just often enough to inject some delightfully prickly personality into a movie that often teeters on the edge of too much niceness. Also featuring Richard Jenkins (Six Feet Under) and Mena Suvari (American Beauty). --Bret Fetzer

Entertaining June 23, 2009 Namaste (Brandon, FL USA) Rumor Has It was quite entertaining! Both my wife and I enjoyed it. It starts with an original idea (A man romantically envolved with three generations of women in the same family.) The youngest of these women is not sure who she is and if she is, in fact, her current father's daughter. Although she is engaged to a man who loves her, she is very confused and feels the need to learn the truth and so, goes searching for answers. The story was believable and there were enough twists and turns to keep the viewer's interest. This was a movie which could make you think a bit, make you laugh and even, at the end, bring a tear to your eye as you identify with a person's fruitful search for self-discovery. Above all, it was entertaining!
Much better than expected January 14, 2009 Helen S. Lam 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is far funnier than the typical romance-comedy. Aniston plays her stereotypical female in crisis role. Costner and MacLaine added more laughs. You may know the plot but it's still so funny. I highly enjoyed this flick.

This movie was ok. Pay attention to the beginning of the movie as this storyline gets you thinking about the Rumor that is started and what is actually true. I would say this is an average movie, nothing really great.
SAVED BY MACLAINE December 31, 2008 Geary A., Jones 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Don't get me wrong, the acting was good all around. The idea that a woman is so confused that she'll sleep with the guy that might be her father, grandfather, or both because she's having second thoughts about her own impending marriage seems a little less than funny, and the ending ( How pathetic could a man be? ) was a bit more than unbelievable. Rob Reiner must have been channeling his inner 'Lynch' when he chose to do this film ( although, David Lynch would have probably made a lot more sense of this mess of a script ). On the plus side there were some funny moments, and then there was Shirley MacLaine. She owned every scene she was in, and made a nearly mediocre movie ( despite it's great cast ) not only palatable, but entertaining.
Aniston wrecks it again. What little there was. October 3, 2008 Patrick Nava (San Francisco, CA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
With Jennifer Aniston, it always seems you know what's going to happen in a film. There's never a mystery of surprise in any movie I've seen her in. Terrible acting. Kevin Costner and Shirley MacLaine's parts weren't any funnier. I'll save you time here. THIS REVIEW NOT HELPFUL.
