Amazon.com There's an extra coat of hot wax on Pixar's vibrant, NASCAR-influenced comedy about a world populated entirely by cars. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the slick rookie taking the Piston Cup series by storm when the last race of the season (the film's high-octane opening) ends in a three-way tie. On the way to the tie-breaker race in California, Lightning loses his way off Route 66 in the Southwest desert and is taught to stop and smell the roses by the forgotten citizens of Radiator Springs. It's odd to have such a slim story from the whizzes of Pixar, and the film pales a bit from their other films (though can that be a fair comparison?). Nonetheless, Cars is another gleaming ride with Pixar founder John Lasseter, who's directing for the first time since Toy Story 2. There's the usual spectrum of excellent characters teamed with appropriate voice talent, loads of smooth humor for kids and parents alike, knockout visuals, and a colorful array of sidekicks, including a scene-stealing baby blue forklift named Guido. Lightning's plight is changed with the help of former big-city lawyer Sally Carrera (Pixar veteran Bonnie Hunt), the town's patriarch Doc Hudson (Paul Newman), and kooky tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy). The Incredibles was the first Pixar film to break the 100-minute barrier, but had enough story not to suffer; Cars, at 116 minutes (including some must-see end credit footage), is not as fortunate, plus it never pierces the heart. Trivia fans should have bonanza with the frame-by-frame DVD function; the movie is stuffed with in-jokes, some appearing only for an instant. Ages 5 and up. --Doug Thomas

*********** Cars, a cute auto movie****************** February 8, 2010 Kimberly Crowson I loved this movie when it came out. Had purchased a copy when it went on DVD, watched it many times, with the family, until it started to freeze up too many times. Now on blue ray, not only still a cute movie, awesome graphics.
GREAT PRODUCT! January 31, 2010 Tricia (Fredericksburg, VA, US) I was excited to receive this product and it didn't disappoint. Great Price! MONEY WELL SPENT! Thanks. (=
A car guy's cartoon January 30, 2010 S. Saavedra (Norwalk, California) I and many other car guys have watched this one with subtle enjoyment. There are plenty of little car related gags in the film that are lots of fun to notice when they come up. You can get this one for the kids, and you can enjoy it for yourself too.
Excellent on Blu-Ray! January 30, 2010 DJ MinWah If this movie goes down in price, definitely get it on Blu-Ray. On a regular DVD you'll probably just see better detail and brighter colors. But on the Blu-Ray version I could make out textures on surfaces of the people/surroundings that I never saw before.
Cars (Full Screen Edition) January 18, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) Lightning McQueen, a hotshot rookie race car driven to succeed, discovers that life is about the journey, not the finish line, when he finds himself unexpectedly detoured in the sleepy Route 66 town of Radiator Springs. On route across the country to the big Piston Cup Championship in California to compete against two seasoned pros, McQueen gets to know the town's offbeat characters including Sally, a snazzy 2002 Porsche, Doc Hudson, a 1951 Hudson Hornet with a mysterious past, and Mater, a rusty but trusty tow truck, who help him realize that there are more important things than trophies, fame and sponsorship. The animation in this movie is gorgeous, and the story brings a smile to your face, and you can't help falling in love with all of the colorful characters. This is movie is worth seeing.
