Product Description For more than twelve years James Lipton has sat down with over 200 of the world's most accomplished artist for penetrating fascinating interviews. Lipton's studious research and enlightened curiosity has inspired his guests to open up and confess their deepest thoughts and about their craft since the series premiere in 1994.Dave Chappelle appeared as a guest on Inside The Actors Studios early this year - shortly after his dramatic exit from Chappelle's Show and his pilgrimage to Africa. Upon his return to America he chose the freedom of this show to reveal why he was able to walk away from TV riches - and what was revealed to him Africa. The sometimes hilarious often touching and always intriguing answers to these questions are waiting here in this Emmy nominated episode.System Requirements:Run Time: 90 minsFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS Rating: TV-PG UPC: 826663102161 Manufacturer No: DVD10216
Amazon.com Dave Chappelle's outstanding appearance on Inside the Actor's Studio is certainly one of the high points on that long-running interview series. Not long after his surprising exit from a hugely-successful show on Comedy Central, followed by a trip to Africa that became shrouded in media speculation about the comic's sanity, Chappelle agreed to talk to host James Lipton. Appearing before one of Lipton's typically educated crowds of acting students and others in the performing arts (a flight delay forced the guest to keep them all waiting four hours), Chappelle talks about his early life as a reluctant student yet inspired and daring son of progressive academics. His discovery at age 14 of his life's missioncomedyis actually thrilling to hear described, as are subsequent anecdotes about feeling the joy of an audience's goodwill (and surviving their collective animosity at times). Chappelle talks about his early TV work and forays into film (he says cracking up Eddie Murphy on the set of The Nutty Professor meant more to him than awards ever could). He discusses his disappointment with the feature, Half-Baked, but how his partnership with co-writer Neal Brennan on that film eventually led to monster hit Chappelle's Show. Most powerful is Chappelle's serious cultural commentary about the extraordinary career and media pressures that can make even the strongest people in showbiz do the unexpected at timesand then be dismissed as crazy. And, yes, he does go into the poignant reasons that caused him to walk away from a $50 million third season on Chappelle's Show. A very funny, smart, and satisfying session. --Tom Keogh

Great documentary. Dave Chappelle really shows his true self August 6, 2008 G. Foreman (Washington, DC United States) This is a great docu on Dave Chapelle's life and career.
Definitely pick this up. Dave talks about life in DC, teenage years, breaking into comedy and the explosive success of the Dave Chapelle show.
A very introspective look at Dave.

Like everyone else, I was wondering about what happened to Dave when he busted to Africa, all the rumors this one that one and all the others. Well here is all the scoop, he tells it like it is, after you see this you will go ohhhhhhhhh okay!
plus lots of funny stuff, as well as serious talk, as only Dave can say it.
This show was so in demand to keep playing after it aired, and calls and emails for a DVD were so many that here he go for the first time ever, over 200 guest, a DVD is released from one guest of this show. There is another DVD "Set" with Clint Eastwood, B.S. ( Barbara Streisand, Robert Redford, and someone else, but how about that, the biggest stars of the world, and they wont even give them there own dvd release, it's all together or nothing. Dave has is OWN release, that should tell you how compelling this particular show was, and is.
The only guest of James that was tops over this, was Robin Williams, off the hook make you pee and cry show, and that was on a couple years ago, and still no DVD from that one. hope they release that.
Dave or Daves peeps, if your reading this, please re release Killin Them Softly DVD with Closed Captioned. They play this on Comedy Channel, and its closed captioned, I would like to by the dvd as well as you would be suprised how many people out there have bad hearing, not just deaf. as we have in our family. since the comedy channel already has it captioned, maybe can look into using that over to the dvd, this way not much of a new incured cost, eh?
Also, Daves show season one and two, actually say closed captioned on the box, but its not. I emailed lots of people of this site and asked them to try there dvd out to see, everyone said the dvd they have also doesnt have it. please address, again on tv its closed captioned, maybe transfer it over to the dvd's? to lesson the cost. think of all the people that will now buy these dvds now that it has it, thanks.
