Amazon.com This Jack Black vehicle seems, on the surface, like a perfect fit for the actor: an opportunity to showcase Black's unique style with the extreme facial gestures and exuberant physicality that have become his forte. Black plays Ignacio, a lowly cook in a monastery in central Mexico who feeds orphans by day, and wrestles in the town square at night. Ignacio teams up with Esqueleto (Hector Jimenez), a street urchin who tormented him, to form a tag-team duo that goes up against the strangest wrestlers Mexico has to offer. Besides doing it for money to feed the orphans, Ignacio is also fighting to win the forbidden affections of Sister Encarnacion (Ana de la Reguera) with predictable difficulty. While the movie has likeable characters and the plot is enjoyable enough, it can't overcome its plodding pace and formulaic structure enough to keep the movie interesting throughout. Jack Black is a very strong comedic actor, and the wrestling scenes offer plenty of chances for slapstick, physical comedy, but watching him run around in red briefs and blue tights amounts to half the laughs in the movie, and there's just not enough here for him to really work with. When he plays a more well-formed character, as in School of Rock and High Fidelity, his strengths really show. But in Nacho Libre he's saddled with a caricature. Weighed down by too much low-brow humor and a script that goes nowhere, Nacho Libre just can't make full enough use of Black's talents to overcome the obstacles. --Daniel Vancini

Its simple..CLASSIC March 10, 2010 Michael Thorne Is there any way to really rate this movie?? Its just simply a cult classic. I remember before the movie even came out at the theaters. I thought , this movie looks like trash. It actually "for some reason" made me sick to look at the trailer.
BUT once I watched it "shortly after it came out on dvd"...It instantly ended up one of my favorite and most quoted movies ever.
I love it. Its nice clean humor that you can watch with anyone and not feel uncomfortable. Truly a classic that will go unnoticed by many, but loved by those who watch it.
Sequel?....I wish.
Great movie December 5, 2009 Tommy H (Amherst, NY United States) Jack Black is so over the top with the facial expressions and his mannerisms....I laughed out loud alot. My 6-yr.old and I watch together.....there really is no bad language and innuendo is kept to a minimum. He loves the bathroom humor (of course) and I love the whole thing. Excellent casting, good acting and a really funny premise. Nachoooooooooooooo!

Anyone who has lived in Mexico will appreciate the humor of Nacho Libre. I like most of Jack Black's films and felt he was perfectly cast for his role in this film. I am not one to buy many movies, but went ahead and purchased this one. It is appropriate for all ages making it easy to watch when company shows-up and need some entertainment.
Jack Black Nailed it November 16, 2009 D. Perser (New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Its as if somebody said, "What if we make a movie similar to ROCKY but lets have the main character be a Mexican Wrestler and lets make it really funny."
I get the feeling Jack Black loves the Mexican culture and the style of John belushi.
If you like to cheer for the underdog and you need a good laugh .. this one is for you.
All the little details in the movie help to make it funny. Everything from his motorcycle to the signature of a love letter. In several parts of the movie, unexpected funny (yet honest) comments are said that will make you laugh.
Undestand .. I am not a Jack Black fan. And I prefer a movie with a little nudity. But I'm glad I have this one in my collection.
Watch it again... and again... Funnier and funnier! November 6, 2009 Karen K. Whitham 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my favorite Jack Black movie! One of the funniest movies of the year.... seriously. Every time I watch it it gets funnier. I believe that people will look back on this movie in year to come as a cult classic.
For those who gave it a bad review??? I don't know if you are familiar with this type of comedy
