| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock pair up again in what could be described as the anti-Speed: The Lake House, a sweet, relaxed-paced, whimsical romance. When Alex Wyler (Reeves, The Matrix) moves into an unusual glass house on stilts over a lake, he discovers a note from the previous tenant in the mailbox--but no one's lived in the house for years. He replies and soon discovers that he's corresponding with a doctor named Kate Forster (Bullock, Miss Congeniality) who's writing from two years in the future. Their correspondence turns romantic and their paths cross in unexpected ways, but when they try to truly connect, danger looms. Though the plot of The Lake House sounds potentially static, the movie is skillfully structured and, despite some truly awful dialogue, will exert an emotional pull on anyone willing to embrace the device of the time-travelling mailbox. What the movie really demonstrates, though, is the genuine rapport between Bullock and Reeves; Reeves, though handsome, has a wooden presence--but in his few scenes with Bullock, his stiffness transforms into a palpable yearning. On-screen chemistry is slippery and hard to define, but these two have it. --Bret Fetzer

Lake House June 3, 2009 Deborah McBain (Rutherfordton, NC) Loved this movie. I think it is the best movie ever with Sandra and Reeves. He has been said to be wooden in this film, but frankly, I just don't see it. This plot could probably have been developed better, but several viewings helped me to understand it more fully.
A reason for above average ratings June 1, 2009 Vince M Not quite your typical Hollywood budget movie, perhaps there wasn't enough influence to garner higher ratings from known movie critics. The "people" however seem to be right on with better than average reviews. What readers will want to know about this movie: 1) It's a fantasy/fiction love story, so you are one who likes to dream about something that could never happen in real life 2) The enjoyment of the movie comes from scenarios that, with it's sum of compliments, creates an emotional connection 3) The chemistry from director to actor to scenary is sublime. Reason and logic don't apply here because, well, it's not supposed to. You're supposed to get "lost" somewhere, and lost I got. Don't forget to buy the soundtrack afterwards. Excellent tracks by Paul McCartney, Nick Drake, Rachel Portman, and more to bring you back to the lakehouse.
The Lake House April 29, 2009 Alyce Carroll I have seen this movie in the past and did enjoy it and wanted to see it again. This is the reason I purchased it. It was different, not your run of the mill romance.
Great movie April 24, 2009 C. Benison (Tampa, FL) I really loved that this movie was connected with Jane Austen's Persuasion. Big Jane fan. I really enjoyed watching Keanu and Sandra act together. I know Keanu gets a bad rap for being totally devoid of emotion or character. But this time was different. He was in character and was able to portray the love and lost important to this role. A+
Time and space are like an accordion March 24, 2009 ennui (California) This is a charming, romantic love story. I think if you spend too much energy examining the timelines, the "but, if..." questions will ruin it for you. As The Doctor says, "People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect... but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey ... stuff." Simply allow the characters to tug at your heart.
