Product Description Warner Brothers Superman The Movie - HD-DVD The story begins with Superman's birth on the doomed planet Krypton and follows him on his arrival to Earth, his childhood in Kansas and his career as reporter for the Daily Planet.
Amazon.com essential video Richard Donner's 1978 epic about the Man of Steel showed how a film about a superhero could be a moving and romantic experience even for people who long ago gave up comic books. Beginning on the icy planet Krypton, the story follows the baby Kal-El, whose rocket ship lands in Smallville, Kansas. He is found there by a childless couple and raised as the shy Clark Kent (the young Kent is played by Jeff East). The film is perhaps most touching in these sequences, with expanses of wheat fields blowing in the wind and with a young man who can't figure out what part in destiny his great powers are meant to play. The second half, with Reeve taking over as Clark/Superman, is bustling, enchanting (the scene in which Superman flies girlfriend Lois Lane--played by Margot Kidder--through the night sky is great date material), and funny, thanks largely to Gene Hackman's sardonic portrayal of nemesis Lex Luthor. --Tom Keogh

It's really no great improvement over the standard DVD, in fact, I'm rather more partial to my regular DVD of the film March 14, 2010 Rykre (Carson City, Nevada) Today, I bought my first Blu-Ray disc player. And the first of my 22 Blu-Ray discs that I already bought that I played today was this movie of "Superman: The Movie."
Well, I just watched this Blu-Ray version of "Superman: The Movie", and then watched my old DVD of this film. I'll have to say that buying the Blu-Ray disc of this movie proved to be a waste of money. The Blu-Ray disc looks no better than the DVD. In fact, I'll even say that the DVD had it's colors more in check than this Blu-Ray disc did. On Blu-Ray, the flesh tones were rather too pink where on regular DVD, everyone's flesh tones looked more natural. So, for this being my first Blu-Ray disc to watch and compare, I'm rather disappointed, but then again, greatly relieved. Perhaps I won't bother buying Blu-Ray disc replacements for the DVD's that I already have and believe look quite good as the standard DVD's that they are. I really do think that Blu-Ray is getting far more hype than they're really worth.
fantastic March 13, 2010 big mike (williamsburg bklyn) it such a great pleasure to watch a classic movie i watch as a kid on special dvd it includes some classic cartoon of 40s and the superman vs molemen movie which was cool but i didnt buy it here i got it at a 99 cent store brand new for 6.99 what a bargain enjoy everyone
good movie February 11, 2010 Tootsie (Wisconsin USA) I bought this movie for my grandson. I remember that Christopher Reeves did an excellent job as Superman and Gene Hackman as Lex. It's a good movie to sit back with some popcorn and enjoy.
Classic February 3, 2010 Patricia Dixon (Fullerton, CA United States) Superman on blu-ray is the ultimate. My grandkids will love this. The best super hero movie!
The best Superman has ever looked January 30, 2010 Michael A. Albert (nj) I bought this as one of my first Blu-Ray discs, and as far as old movies set to Blu-Ray go, this one looks fantastic. If you love Superman, you'll love this disc.
