The love life of a woolly mammoth--handled with G-rated delicacy--drives this sequel to the first computer-animated romp in the age of prehistoric mammals. While the first Ice Age took a delightful premise and suffocated it with a formulaic plot--in which a mammoth named Manfred (voiced by Ray Romano, Everyone Loves Raymond), a sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo, Moulin Rouge!), and a sabre-tooth tiger named Diego (Denis Leary, Rescue Me) helped an abandoned human infant return to its tribe (basically, Three Mammals and a Baby)--the sequel takes the now-familiar setting, gives it a shapeless, episodic storyline, and yet somehow becomes pretty darn entertaining. Faced with the threat of a flood from melting ice, our heroic trio are on the run to escape from their blossoming valley. On the way, they meet a female mammoth (Queen Latifah, Bringing Down the House) who thinks she's an opossum and get menaced by some freshly defrosted carnivo! rous fish. Add into the mix a herd of lava-worshipping mini-sloths, some Busby Berkeley-style vultures, and more ingenious slapstick featuring the acorn-crazed Scrat, and Ice Age: The Meltdown will amuse even jaded adults. -- Bret Fetzer Beyond Ice Age: The Meltdown Ice Age - Super Cool Edition | Ice Age & Ice Age 2: The Meltdown - (DVD 2-Pack) | Funtastic Adventures Collection Box Set (Ice Age / Robots / Fern Gully / Once Upon a Rainforest) | Stills from Ice Age: The Meltdown (click for larger image)

Ice Age 2 November 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Received item in very good condition. Took a couple of weeks to get, but wasn't in any hurry. Very satisfied w/item.
Ice Age 2: Fantastic! October 29, 2008 Ice Age turned out to be a very entertaining movie. And Ice Age 2: The Meltdown is no exception! The sequel is equally as funny and entertaining as the first film.
We join Manny, Sid, and Diego as they experience a real HUGE problem as they must race for their lives before the entire valley is flooded. One the way Manny gets into a relationship with another of his kind, a female named Ellie and her two possum brother Crash & Eddie.
Meanwhile Scrat has his own problems as he trys to get his accorn back from whatever has taken it! The DVD also has a short of Scrat that is equally as funny called "No Time For Nuts".
This movie gets 5 stars because it is just full of entertainment along with great characters and a great story. I can't wait for ICE AGE 3: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS, which will be released in theaters July 2009.
Anyways, buy this DVD! It is a must have for anyone who enjoys a great story with great characters and some of the best animated comedy ever seen.
Ice Age the Meltdown: Passes Time Mostly Painlessly September 14, 2008 This movie has almost everything a good children's movie should have: nice visuals, memorable characters, life-lessons, and some humor. What it doesn't have is much of a story. The visuals are padded to make up for the lack of dialogue and suspense, and there are only so many CG-drawn images you can look at of ice-glaciers and marching animals before they lose their appeal. The story is very weak, and could have been told over 45 minutes. The children I was with all enjoyed the movie, but not one of them enjoyed it more than the original.
Made a long plane ride fun! July 6, 2008 On a long 17 hour plane ride to Rome this was one of the available in flight movies. I had not seen Ice Age 1, but I watched all of the available films because I had plenty of time! I enjoyed this film so much, when I got home I bought the first one immediately! The characters are fantastic and the actors they chose to voice this film are simply amazing! What a perfect cast! I really enjoyed this story. I had no idea how this gang of animals came together (you learn that in part 1) but I really enjoyed them, they are so different and make hodge podge of a family that is just a joy to watch. The little guy who chases the acorn is hilarious and a nice break. I'm looking forward to the next one!
Ice Age June 18, 2008 I love, love, love this movie. I laughed so hard the first time I watched it. John Leguizamo is so funny as the voice of Syd the Sloth. Ray Ramono was great as the voice of Manny. Great kid movie, or for the whole family.
