Amazon.com Snakes on a Plane knows exactly what kind of movie it is, knows exactly what moviegoers expect from a title like Snakes on a Plane, and delivers the exact pleasures of a movie in which poisonous snakes are unleashed on a plane to kill an eyewitness to murder. Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, The Long Kiss Goodnight) knows exactly what he's doing in this movie and knows exactly when to pull out the superbad Samuel L. Jackson stare and deliver the infuriated Samuel L. Jackson bellow. The rest of the cast--including Julianna Margulies (ER), Rachel Blanchard (the TV series Clueless), Kenan Thompson (Fat Albert), David Koechner (Anchorman), Bobby Canavale (The Station Agent), and Sunny Mabrey (One Last Thing...)--play their parts with admirably straight faces and deadpan humor. Director David R. Ellis (Final Destination 2, Cellular) gives the movie the much-needed headlong momentum you would expect from a former stunt coordinator. In summation: A perfect piece of self-aware but not self-conscious high camp entertainment, blending comedy and thrills in perfect proportion. --Bret Fetzer

What was Samuel L. Jackson thinking??? June 26, 2009 Deborah A. Zemke (Countryside, Illinois USA) This is without a doubt the worst movie I've seen in years. I can't believe SLJ took this part! He must have really needed the money.
Fun, but not a good film. June 23, 2009 Andrew Driscoll (WI) After seeing this movie, I was actually suprised. The movie did a good job setting up the characters and Samuel L. Jackson did a decent job as the lead role. The snakes were a little dissapointing and it was easy to tell they were CGI. Although predictible and somewhat lame, it was a fun movie that was a nice watch on a hot summer day.
I Don't Care What Anybody Says. . . June 2, 2009 Gayle L. Edmond (New York State) this was a GREAT movie! I took my 18 year old nephew and we LOVED IT! Some of his friends sat near us and we all were screaming and laughing - yes laughing. If you take it for what it is, it's reminiscent of the "disaster movies" of the 1970's, with a silly plot, scenery chewing actors and loads of action. I thoroughly enjoyed it at the theatre and have since seen it two more times on TV. I made my boyfriend watch it and he even reluctantly admitted it wasn't that bad. Sam Jackson seems more annoyed by the snakes than anything and of course, saves the day. I would have loved to have been an extra in the movie. Especially the scene when everyone tries to go up the spiral staircase at the same time, and when the window opens! This is not a movie to be taken seriously people, it's just plain FUN. And when Sam Jackson delivered the famous line, the whole audience cheered, and clapped. Whenever I recommend it to people, they always say, "I don't like snakes". Well, neither do I and this isn't a movie about liking snakes, it's just a lot of fun.
3 stars out of 4 January 24, 2009 One-Line Film Reviews (Ann Arbor) The Bottom Line: A much-hyped film which turned out to be much ado about nothing, Snakes on a Plane delivers exactly what it promises (stupid "so bad it's good" filmmaking and Airport-style camp) and so is not really worth recommending or not recommending: it's bad, but it's up to you to decide if it's bad in a good way or bad in a bad way.
Ouch January 19, 2009 D. Mikels (Skunk Holler) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I hate snakes. Just something about the slithering, slimy serpents that makes my skin crawl. So imagine being trapped on a jetliner with hundreds of 'em--all poisonous. Then imagine being attacked, and being bitten on all conceivable body parts. Draw upon this scenario, with tongue planted firmly in cheek (pardon the reptilian pun) and you've got SNAKES ON A PLANE. Lordy, is this movie fun. Never, ever, taking itself seriously, this cinematic mad hatter oozes goofiness, nonsense, silliness, ickiness, and thrills 'n chills by the skin-shedding score. Samuel L. Jackson, as an FBI agent assigned to protect an informant marked by the mob, gets to go off in his traditional Samuel L. Jackson way; Julianne Margulies (the stewardess in charge) tries to play off of Jackson's rants, yet in the end has the good sense just to get out of the way. Zany character actor David Koechner, who plays the plane's pilot, manages to maintain a coarse locker room persona--even after he's been bitten more times than Paris Hilton's had dates. Again, it's all fun: good, clean, irreverent fun. Even the closing credits, featuring a music video by Cobra Starship (who?) performing Snakes On A Plane (Bring It) is a hoot. So watching SNAKES ON A PLANE did make me shudder and squirm, but no matter. I was in B-movie bliss. --D. Mikels, Author, The Reckoning
