    Product Description
Lionsgate Saw III (Blu-ray)Jigsaw has disappeared. With his new apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the puppet-master behind the cruel, intricate games that have terrified a community and baffled police has once again eluded capture and vanished. While citydetectives scramble to locate him, Doctor Lynn Denlon (Bahar Soomekh) and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) are unaware that they are about to become the latestpawns on his vicious chessboard.

The first Saw picture actually had an idea behind it, to say nothing of the ingenuity of its low-budget production; making a silk purse out of a bloody, maggot-ridden human ear, as it were. With Saw III, the franchise pretty much settles into gore for gore's sake, as it explores newer and better ways to traumatize the body--and the audience. Events from Saw II are sewn up at the beginning of the film, and a detective on the trail of mad killer Jigsaw is quickly trussed up and subjected to one of the villain's sadistic games (this one has escape possible only by means of a key sitting in the bottom of a beaker of acid). Then we catch up with Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) himself, as he awaits death from his debilitating illness; once again he's tended by helper Shawnee Smith. The movie follows parallel plots: Jigsaw blackmails a doctor (Bahar Soomekh) into keeping him alive, and tortures a vengeful soul (Angus Macfayden) into recognizing the futility of revenge. Original Saw creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell worked on the script of this one, and it fully buys into the series mythology, referring backwards to previous events and, for all we know, preparing us for future installments. But if future installments are as pointlessly repugnant as this one, there's not much to look forward to. --Robert Horton

4 out of 5 stars forgiveness or revenge? Make your choice...   February 2, 2010
    Tony's reviews
Don't worry, my opinion for part two is coming soon. The weird part for me about this series is I don't like movies with torture-but this one has a demented cleverness to it that I didn't expect. The traps are sadistic but clever, the music is creepy, and Jigsaw's game in this one is something I admire-testing someone's capacity for forgiveness over revenge is a very interesting concept. When criminals go free it does make me angry, but hatred and revenge can have serious consequences, as this chapter demonstrates in gruesome detail. Kudos to Charles Clouser for the music score-I'm not sure even Jerry Goldsmith could've made a score this creepy. Special mention must be made to Tobin Bell as Jigsaw-what he does with his voice, making it raspy to the sound of a whisper was eerily effective,he gives me chills just hearing him talk, and his voice on his tapes are the same way. I'm not gonna lie though, a couple scenes/traps in this one did make me cringe, I look forward to part 5 though.

4 out of 5 stars One of the Best Saw Movies   January 28, 2010
    Tommy Morais (New Brunswick, Canada)
Saw III picks up right where II left off and then forwards goes six months ahead, a new victim is discovered is an inescapable trap. Usually "patients" of John "Jigsaw" Kramer can escape the games; this time the trap is unusual which brings questions about the inventor of this trap. Saw III is basically a large and complicated game much like the first movie. Jigsaw is dying and Amanda brings in Doctor Lynn Denlon who has to keep him alive for the game's length in order to succeed her game. Meanwhile her husband Jeff is the one playing the "real" game which will decide of everyone's fate. This one is also Amanda's big test even if she doesn't know it. The fact that Saw III is so complex, logical and that it makes sense at the same is quite an accomplishment for a horror movie as they rather ignore connectivity from a movie to another, Saw does not. It's obvious that with this third movie they tried to end the trilogy while knowing that there might be a next movie, they could have ended Saw right there if they wanted to. It is the most profitable Saw movie to date having earned an estimated total of $164,874,275 worldwide.

I feel this is one of the better Saw movies, first of all it has a great story and its complicated which I think is what fans will love about it. Secondly why someone may or may not like it is because it's the goriest of the Saw movies in my opinion, the traps are amazing I felt they put in some extra effort for those.

4 out of 5 stars A nice end to the trilogy...   November 30, 2009
    Steven Herring
This should have in my opinion been the final movie. It was a trilogy and you don't want to bleed the franchise dry. Unfortunately money came into effect and there are now 6 Saw movies. The movie follows a man's path of revenge against those that hurt his son. He decides for the victims whether to let them die or help them survive. It is really connected to Saw IV so watch them back to back. Also it revolves a lot around Jigsaw's assistant. Without ruining the plot points I won't give away who that is. Also a doctor was chosen to help save Jigsaw. There are a lot of connections to Saw I and II, which help the movie. There is a lot of great character development that was a bit lacking in Saw II. The ending is awesome, perhaps the best in the series. It really ties all the characters together and leaves you breathless.

I don't care how gory this film is, it still does not come close to the bloodbath at the end of Scorsese's Casino with the baseball bat thuds one of the all time squirm sounds. Simple but true, fact is always worse than fiction.
