Amazon.com One of TV's more interesting tough-girl action shows, Dark Angel is a distinctive blend of the personal, the adventurous, and the politically aware. Cocreators James Cameron and Charles Eglee present a complex scenario of biological super-science and social collapse in which their gene-manipulated heroine and hacker-journalist hero can genuinely make a difference. In this first season they also provide an adversary who is a lot more than just a conventional villain. Jessica Alba is impressive as Max, bred and trained as a super-soldier but reclaiming her individual humanity; Michael Weatherly is scruffily attractive as Eyes Only, who sits semi-paralyzed in his eyrie above Seattle uncovering crime, corruption, and other skullduggeries and assigning deadly errands to the woman he hopelessly loves. Jon Savage has real authority as Lydeker, a man who has stretched his conscience to the breaking point, but is not personally corrupt. Some of the best episodes--"Prodigy," for example--are ones in which Lydeker and Max are forced into temporary alliance. Early on, the relationship between Max and the other workers at Jam Pony--the courier firm that provides her with a cover identity--is a little forced, but later on the two parts of Max's life are more successfully integrated: "Shorties in Love," for example, is a genuinely touching tale about Diamond, the doomed criminal ex-lover of Max's lesbian roommate. Dark Angel was never a perfect show, but at its occasional best it manages to be simultaneously funny and dramatic. --Roz Kaveney

love this season November 20, 2009 C. Sicard (Lawrence, MA United States) I loved this show and its main star but the second season really bites. Wish they could of continued the story lines into the second and perhaps it would of been successful.

I never knew who Jessica Alba was and reallly noone did until this show start off on Fox, i saw the previews on the network and set my vcr i had to see this girl i thought she was incredibly gorgoues, after i watched it i got hooked the show is one of very few shows with a female leading all the action. Fun show packed with action, comedy, drama, suspence, all that good stuff.
Great to revisit each episode at leisure August 12, 2009 Joan Thomas (Grayslake, IL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was a big fan of this show when it was on network TV. Jessica Alba has such an exotic look. She seemed to smolder. I really enjoyed the interplay between her character, Max, and Michael Weatherly's Logan Cale. I haven't even gotten to the extras yet. There seem to be an interesting collection of them. I'll be getting plenty of viewing entertainment from this set!
Great show July 13, 2009 Keri L. Hamlin (Chicago, IL) What a great show! I am a fan of Buffy the Vampire slayer, and sci-fi in general, and someone said I should check out Dark Angel. I thought it had all the right elements of a great series: action, a little romance, good writing. For those of you who don't know about it, it's set in the post-apocalyptic future, and about a trans-genic group of kids with super speed and strength who escape from the lab/prison they have been brought up in. The main character, Max, is sort of a robin hood, stealing from the rich and corrupt and helping out others. Basically it follows her as she finds out more about the place she escaped from and tries to find the others who escaped with her. She befriends an anti-government do gooder named Logan and they team up to take on the establishment that "created" her.
If you are a fan of sci-fi, you should enjoy this one.
A great show that should've lasted longer July 4, 2009 Tim R. Creecy (Kansas City, MO USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Dark Angel was a great story that should've lasted longer than it did. The idea of terrorists turning the world upside down(especially the US) with an electronic pulse gave the writers a lot of great options and storylines to dive into with this series. The characters were all great together and the chemistry was obviously there with the two leads(Michael Weatherly and Jessica Alba who dated in real life as well at the time.)
It is Jessica Alba's best work by far. She's always been easy on the eyes no matter what she's done but the character Max was made for her. No other role she's done comes close. Michael Weatherly was also the perfect man for the character of Logan Cale. Michael played the role of Logan(A serious do gooder who sometimes falls on the side of obsessed) very well. There's also Jensen Ackles who played the part of Alec(a name given to him by Max) very well. Dark Angel was a great springboard for all three of them.
If you love action, a little humor, some sci-fi and romance then you'll love the show Dark Angel.
