| Customer Reviews: Images come to Life January 3, 2008 Phil S. (USA) All those still pictures, all those newsreel snippets of Elvis' 1956 Homecoming Concert are now here, with sound. It appears that very little of sound on film is presented [historians, correct me if I'm wrong] but the presumptive synchronized sound is a success.
"Long Tall Sally" emerges as Classic Elvis '56 - on "and they jumped back in the alley" Elvis does his scatter step, rubber leg thing and the squeals can be heard on Beale Street.
Regarding, Elvis '57, in color, well, maybe we gotta...follow that dream. The color is vivid, as it is on the beautiful DVD jacket, but there's not much.
We've all seen the blonde lady jump up on stage, overcome with Presleyitis.
On this package, we actually can match her voice to those b & w flickers we've watched for years and years on TV specials. I wish Elvis gave her a part in "Love Me Tender". She might have lent some "realism" to those production numbers.
Alot of interesting color footage of the big parade preceding the historic event is also interesting.
A voluminous book with still more still images is part of the package, as well as a CD of the shows. You may already have those sounds on Elvis' "Golden" boxed-set.
Not Like A Stranger In His Own Home Town August 30, 2007 Thomas Yan Ong (Azusa, CA) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Despite his awesome cover of "Like A Stranger In My Own Home Town", his homecoming to his birthplace Tupelo, Mississippi is anything but a cold reception. A very warm exciting reception for their hometown hero which is shown in spades in this exciting DVD presentation. This DVD, hard to find... or not, depends on where you look, is a must own for any true Elvis Presley fan, or rock fan. This is the man who launched rock music to high gear in the mid to late 50s and his star power and influence is presented here. A great presentation, though a bit short, understandably since the footage was considered lost for a long time. The Vegas Elvis during the late 60's to 70's is good to see, but to see the raw Elvis, the rocker, the 50's Elvis remain king.
Priceless live 56 footage August 12, 2007 Flockton (CA, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
To see Elvis perform live in concert in 56 is priceless. I give it 4 stars only because the video image and audio is poor, but otherwise the DVD footage is great to see. Elvis gives a great show. A must buy for any Elvis fan!!!
