In year 3, Boston Legal continues to toggle with ease between comedy and pathos. The season begins on a bittersweet note as Denise (Julie Bowen) gets engaged to the terminally ill Daniel (Michael J. Fox), who disappears to try an experimental treatment. Enter two new litigators, smart-talking associate Claire Sims (Constance Zimmer) and cocky partner Jeffrey Coho (Craig Bierko). Once Daniel exits the picture, Jeffrey and Brad (Mark Valley) compete for Denise's affections. The firm soon welcomes a third new face: legal secretary Clarence (Gary Anthony Williams)--also known as Clarice, Clavant, and Oprah. As before, cases vary from minor to major. Story arcs include the murder of a judge's wife (with Ashton Holmes as the suspect and Katey Sagal as his mother) and an outrageous peeping tom (David Dean Bottrell) with a jones for Shirley (Candice Bergen). Denny Crane (William Shatner), meanwhile, finds love with diminutive attorney Bethany (Meredith Eaton-Gilden)--and her mother, Bella (Delta Burke). And Alan (James Spader, who scored a second Emmy to add to the one he received for The Practice) helps former co-worker Jerry "Hands" Espenson (Christian Clemenson) out of a few jams. By the end of the season, Jeffrey is gone, while Jerry returns to Crane, Poole & Schmidt. Throughout the year, the firm tackles a variety of timely issues, ranging from religious freedom to immigration law. Reporter Gracie Jane (Jill Brennan), a Nancy Grace doppelgänger, also comes in for some ribbing. Aside from recurring characters, like Jane Lynch (as a sexual surrogate), the third season counts a few actors behind the camera, such as Eric Stoltz ("Dumping Bella") and Adam Arkin ("Nuts"), from David E. Kelley's Chicago Hope. The featurette Character Witness looks at the year's most colorful characters--turns out Spader and Clemenson are old friends--and Out of Order looks at the judges, notably Gail O'Grady, Howard Hesseman, and Shelley Berman. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Excellent, excellent show but this set... January 10, 2010 K. Roth (TN) This is one of my favorite shows of all time. Only problem with this set is that it is missing some important shows. All of a sudden, one character is gone (skipped that episode on the dvd) and we missed who the father is of the baby, etc. Just so you know, not all the season episodes are here. You need to fill in the blanks on why Clarence is now Shore's secretary and not Claire's, and more. Other than missing shows, it is wonderful!
Pretty Good Season! January 9, 2010 Todd Hagopian (Michigan) While I did not enjoy the new "Clarence/Clarise" character, I did have fun with the two new lawyers (while they lasted). Also, Bowen's expanded role let her actress skills shine, and she was a joy to watch. Also, Jerry ("Hands") comes back to the show in an expanded role, and he is a wonderful character. Alan and Denny never stop getting more and more interesting, and you will love their exchanges. This is definitely a season worth watching.
Enjoy!

very disappointed August 29, 2009 steeler fan 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I never received this item. I contacted the company who was to send it but they said,NOT OUR PROBLEM." They told me to track it. They should be the ones to track the item. THEY sent it.THEY have the mailing receipt, not me. I will NEVER buy from them again, and will tell my friends and e-mail list not to either. I'm VERY disappointed.
Another Kelley Homerun ! July 16, 2009 Douglas B. Rapson (Pennsylvania, USA) I picked up Season Three of Boston Legal, because I am a big fan of many of the Star Trek actors who are regulars or guest stars on the program. William Shatner is obviously at the forefront. That said, the formidable team of Rene A and Armin S also appear on the scene minus all of the prosthetic "alien parts" they wore in DS9 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Complete Series (Seasons 1-7). Speaking of aliens you may know, actor Ethan Phillips beams in from the Starship Voyager Star Trek Voyager - The Complete Seventh Season to take his turn as the dad of a suspected judge killer. The rest of the cast - including Murphy Brown's Murphy Brown: The Complete First Season Candice Bergen, and the always-fun James Spader - provide tremendous variety and enthusiasm.
All of this said, I expected the show to be a lot of fun, as I have enjoyed other David E Kelley productions such as Ally McBeal and The Practice. And Boston Legal does not disappoint. The writing reminds me a great deal of the legal drama and character-driven antics found in Ally. Shatner's would-be romance with a petit attorney could go toe-to-toe with the escapades of McBeal's fetish-obsessed Richard Fish('bygones').
The show is silly and serious and fans of other David E Kelley creations, are certain to devour it with much gusto. Highly recommended.
Good Stuff. June 9, 2009 M. Davis (WA, USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
It was everything I ordered. Unfortunately I didn't read the print well enough and the set came without a cover box. However, this was in the product description and hardly the fault of the seller.
Good product, no problems.
