Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the weekly TV series based on the hit action/sci-fi movie franchise that made Arnold Schwarzenegger a star. Lena Headey (300) plays the title character, the mother who bears the burden of raising--and protecting--the future salvation of mankind, her teenage son, John (Thomas Dekker, Heroes). As explained in both of James Cameron's Terminator movies (this series considers the third film, Rise of the Machines, not part of its mythology), the computer system Skynet has taken over future Earth, and an adult John Connor is the leader of the human resistance, causing the robots to send android assassins--called Terminators--back in time to kill John before he can become a hero. John's would-be assassin--introducing himself as a substitute teacher named Cromartie (Garret Dillahunt)--tracks him down, but John gets a fighting chance with the surprise arrival of a benevolent Terminator (Summer Glau, Firefly) named Cameron (get it?), who declares, "Come with me if you want to live" (another nod to the movies). Thus begins an uneasy partnership among Sarah, John, and Cameron, with Sarah not trusting Cameron and Cameron trying to carry out her mission (some of her deadpans are hilarious) and John caught in the middle (lucky John!). The trio time-travels ahead to 2007 but still can't escape the relentless Cromartie, and also dogged by an FBI agent (Richard T. Jones) who thinks Sarah Connor might be more than just a fugitive. And while the series' fierce action looked like it might slide into a simple Chase of the Week formula, things got interesting with our heroes' discovery of a chess machine called the Turk that might be the first incarnation of Skynet, and a surprising addition to the team (Brian Austin Green). Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles debuted on Fox in January 2008, and the midseason start and the writers' strike kept the season to a mere nine episodes. But it was picked up for a full second season in 2008-2009. --David Horiuchi

Amazing Show June 12, 2009 Annie (New York, USA) I was very skeptical about this show when I first heard about it, being a huge fan of the first two movies. I watched part of the pilot when it aired but it didnt grab me. Then after about a year and a half later, I decided to give it another chance. For the first three episodes I was entertained, but not very impressed. However, during these episodes there were hints that the show had a lot of potential. And starting at the fourth episode the show just took off. It only took a few more episodes for me to decide that this was the best show I've ever seen. The writing is fantastic, the storylines take brilliant twists and turns, and the acting is pitch perfect. This is not just an action dominated show like I predicted. It is a compelling and complex show that you can't sit through casually. It assumes that its audience is intelligent and prefers extremely well-drawn characters rather than gimmicks and predictable writing. I would highly suggest this DVD set as well as the second season, which comes out in a few months. The second season takes everything further and will really blow your mind.
It is not just explosions and special effects June 6, 2009 David J. Hampton While this show has action, the action is not the selling point. The show is very well written. The plot is not simple and has an arc that spans the season(s), not just each episode. The show is canceled (as of now) at the end of season two probably because it is a little too complicated for the average viewer (my opinion). With out spoiling it, I will say that the last few episodes of season two (I know this is a season one review)are great and provide some closure to story lines. So DON"T feel like you should not start watching the series just because you will be left hanging (though it is not all wrapped up with a bow, they wanted to come back and had to have us wanting more). If you like good science fiction I highly recommend this show. If you do not like science fiction but crave well a written intelligent program (rare these days) you should give this show a try.
A fun hour of TV June 5, 2009 Joseph Colombo While only a short season, it makes for great TV. The show was significantly better than T3, and the second season only got better.
A solid TV show that shouldn't have been cancelled May 30, 2009 C. Jenkins The first (pilot) episode is kinda rough; they time travel, and almost jump the shark, but the show gets better from there. Summer Glau does a great job as the terminator Cameron. She does the whole detached from reality thing pretty d*** well. Strange roles seem to work out for her. Because she's a terminator, Summer's character has no social skills to speak of (she can mimic people, but doesn't know the meanings of the actions she's mimicking), which leads to some pretty funny moments, especially when she goes to school (to protect John and to make her seem like a normal teenage girl). Lena Headey makes a believable Sara Connor. Her acting never really wavers, and she shows her characters internal conflict pretty well. She doesn't have the intensity of Linda Hamilton (the original Sara Connor from Terminator 1 and 2), but her character is not going full blast all the time, so it works out in the end. Thomas Dekker also makes a believable John Connor. While everyone's character goes through emotional conflict (minor exception for Summer Glau/Cameron; it makes more sense the more you watch it), John Connor gets the worst of it. He does a good job showing the stress he's under from being the savior of mankind, being hunted by terminators, and even school events (a girl commits suicide, and John could have saved her). The special effects are both good and bad. You can see the work that went into making the CGI models, but it's painfully obvious that it's CG; when there is a shot of a terminator with no human skin, you know they green screened it in. Aside from that, the special effects are more than solid. The action scenes are basic, but well done and well thought out. The plot, from episode to episode as well as from beginning of the episode to the end, flows very well. It's not the kind of show you can watch a few episodes of here and there; each builds upon the last, so you have to pay attention, although you don't have to take detailed notes to understand what's happening. Ultimately, this is a very good show that Fox shouldn't have canceled (just like Firefly). If you're a Terminator fan and don't mind this being non-canonical (it's ultimately a giant, well written fan fic), I highly recommend it. If you're looking for a good TV show to get into, this is the show you want to watch.
