Amazon.com Direct-to-video sequel time, as the title edifice from House on Haunted Hill (itself a remake of a Vincent Price picture) remains standing. And, of course, deadly. The sister (Amanda Righetti) of the original film's heroine finds herself back in the house, along with two competing gangs of trophy hunters: seems there's a priceless Egyptian relic hidden in the former lunatic asylum. Well, sure. Return plods through the usual steps of bad dialogue and disposable acting, with enough gore to satisfy hardcore fans. The only name actor here (the first movie actually had Geoffrey Rush) is Jeffrey Combs, of Re-Animator immortality, who returns to his role (but very, very briefly) as the mad doctor of the place. This movie is bad on every level, but wait, there's a wrinkle: the HD and Blu-Ray editions of the thing have a "Choose Your Adventure" option that allows you to navigate through the movie in different ways, changing the outcome of scenes and the fate of the characters. This might be the sole reason for the film's existence. And if you're watching it on a regular DVD, you're stuck with just watching the movie. --Robert Horton

Eh. Ok. Could be better March 8, 2010 Horror movie holic (St. Louis, MO) As most sequels, this one goes downhill (no pun intended) in comparison to the first one. Like so many horror plots it loses spontaneity by explaining some good v. evil reason for it all and it's the main characters job to defeat evil. Pretty predictable in most spots and it went a little overboard with some of the special effects in an effort to outdo the prequel. Its mildly amusing for most true horror fanatics, but I wish I'd saved my money and waited for it on cable.
great movie! February 23, 2010 K. Szczech (Cambridge, MN USA) i loved this movie! if you like your scary movies, GET THIS MOVIE!
it is a blend of love/kidnapping/killing/little bit of jokes/ghosts/and the CUTIE Andrew Lee Potts!
i definetly reccomend this movie!
Warning: this movie can be a little confusing if you have not seen the first one--House On Haunted Hill
Neat "choose your own adventure" concept... lack luster film. October 19, 2009 JTJ (Tulsa, OK USA) The Hi-def "choose your own outcome" feature is neat and good for a couple hours of entertainment. My criticism would be that there are not enough outcomes/different 'paths' to take...Although it is quite entertaining to encounter the 'game-over' ending roughly in the middle of the flick. If you're curious about this feature, you might enjoy this movie. The film itself, whether in edited/interactive or unedited form, is pretty weak. It doesn't scare and the dialogue, as expected, leaves much to be desired.
Movie Title "Rip Off" ! April 4, 2009 D. Scott (CO USA) The only sembelance to the origional "House on haunted", Is the title, this movie is an insult to the origional HOHH, and an insult to Vincent Price and his Fantastic/Campy portrail, of a troubled marriage, with a "haunted house" to support the story.. The Origional is A True Classic, and this movie attempts to be sucessful, buy riding "The Skirt Tales", of one of Vincent Price's Masterpice..NO,NO.
Hey what can you really expect from a straight to dvd horror b? April 4, 2009 Sid the Elf (North Pole) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's been a while since Sid dropped a horror review so why not go with a straight to video sequel? The first House on Haunted Hill starred Chris Kattan and Taye Diggs which seemed like it really scraped the bottom of the barrel. However the much more b sequel topped that cast with horror b queen Cerina Vincent. Anything she's in will ultimately lower your standards for the flick and you'll wind up enjoying it. It falls into that our favorite category of "so bad it's good."
The film revolves around the recent suicide of Sarah Wolfe who was the sole survivor from the murders that took place at the Vanacutt Mansion. For some time she tried to explain how ghosts were responsible for the murders that took place but nobody would believe her. Somehow Sarah got her hands on the secret diary of Dr. Vanacutt and winds up sending it to her sister Ariel. Once she recieves the diary a group kidnaps her and forces her alog with others into the mansion in hopes of finding a very valuable statue. Once inside the spirits begin to reek havoc on all leaving escape a very unlikely option.
Overall the film was pretty enjoyable. There were a few creepy moments courtesy of some strange looking ghosts. The film moved along pretty quick which is always good when dealing with b horror. If it lasts too long it will tend to just get boring, but this one just got by in that department. We wouldn't recommend buying it but if it's on late one night and you have and hour & a half to kill it's worth checking out.
