Amazon.com Weirdly marketed as a right-wing screed upon its initial release in 1973, Walking Tall is really a tragic, shockingly violent post-noir film based on various legends surrounding real-life Southern sheriff Buford Pusser. Joe Don Baker (The Natural) gives a powerful performance as Pusser, who took on determined forces of crime and corruption in his town at great personal expense. Directed with an intentionally crude force by Phil Karlson (Kansas City Confidential), one of the toughest filmmakers of the 1950s, the film's grimness does not let up, but in the end it is more likely to break hearts than turn stomachs. --Tom Keogh
Product Description BASED ON THE LIFE OF TENNESSEE SHERIFF BUFORD PUSSER WHOM ALMOSTSINGLE-HANDILY CLEANED UP HIS SMALL TOWN OF CRIME AND CORRUPTION, BUT AT A PERSONAL COST OF HIS FAMILY LIFE AND NEARLYHIS OWN LIFE.

waking tall July 5, 2010 theville13 hard hitting drama about the life of tenn lawman budford pusser very violent great movie from the 70s love it
Who will be the next? May 3, 2010 Hiram Gomez Pardo (Valencia, Venezuela)
We are in 1973. by this times, the films "Easy rider", "Billy Jack", "Straw dogs", Clockwise orange", "Deliverance" and "Magnum Force" still resounded in our memories as films that employed the violence as dramatic support and not as simple pretext to fill the screen of no sense bloody sequences. As a matter of fact, over the years all of these acquired a special cult status for generations to come.
But a real fact inspired this movie. The Tennessee sheriff Buford Pusser dealt and faced against the hometown syndicate gambling operations. The prize was a brutal beating from the mobsters that almost cost his life : 192 stitches put his face back together.
This incident inspired Phil Karlson to recreate this highly violent movie that was a sanitized version in which a man takes by assault his own concept of ethical justice.
The film in question was a huge commercial hit, grossing over 40 millions dollars domestically. The film was written by the producer Mort Briskin.
A film that is part of the legendary section of consecrated cult movies of the seventies.
New and improved Walking Tall !!! March 1, 2010 BeastNYC (Brooklyn , New York) This DVD is leaps and bounds over the previous Rhino release. The picture is very clean and clear. This widescreen version looks great on my HDTV. This Paramount release is a high quality DVD. There are no extra features, but I can't complain because the picture looks so good!
Walking Tall starring Joe Don Baker is a classic!!! They don't make movies like this anymore! Buford never backs down and he never stops fighting crime!!!
The villains stab him and shoot him twice, but he refuses to die.
With some help from a woman at the "Lucky Spot" (who likes marines and ex-marines) Buford stops curruption and brings justice to his community.
Buford is an honest man and he is an example that some men cannot be bought. He stands up for what it right.
Buford stops wrestling because he was tired of being controlled. He didn't like the rules and people telling him when to win or lose. He returns home to find that life is similar to wrestling because of the currupt sheriff and judge who manipulate the law.
Buford gets even with the sheriff and judge! I always laugh when Buford gives the judge a new office!!! ha ha lol at the judge!!
This movie is a must have for all action fans!!!
Walking Tall December 30, 2009 Emily (El Cajon, CA, US) This is an excellent old movie. Joe Don Baker acts as a take charge peace officer. One of the best old movies around. To bad the other Walking Tall movies could not have been this good or realistic.
Walking Tall December 12, 2009 Jennifer P. Maddrey (Wilson, NC) Older classic.....great watch!!! (And I was a fighting watching this movie, because I told my boyfriend and son that it was a guys movie-ha-ha)
