Amazon.com First sequels are the true test of an enduring movie franchise, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets passes with flying colors. Expanding upon the lavish sets, special effects, and grand adventure of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry involves a darker, more malevolent tale (parents with younger children beware), beginning with the petrified bodies of several Hogwarts students and magical clues leading Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron (Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) to a 50-year-old mystery in the monster-laden Chamber of Secrets. House elves, squealing mandrakes, giant spiders, and venomous serpents populate this loyal adaptation (by Sorcerer's Stone director Chris Columbus and screenwriter Steve Kloves), and Kenneth Branagh delightfully tops the supreme supporting cast as the vainglorious charlatan Gilderoy Lockhart (be sure to view past the credits for a visual punchline at Lockhart's expense). At 161 minutes, the film suffers from lack of depth and uneven pacing, and John Williams' score mostly reprises established themes. The young, fast-growing cast offers ample compensation, however, as does the late Richard Harris in his final screen appearance as Professor Albus Dumbledore. Brimming with cleverness, wonderment, and big-budget splendor, Chamber honors the legacy of J.K. Rowling's novels. --Jeff Shannon

Excellent March 23, 2009 Christina M. Verville (NH) When I had ordered this item I was a little hesitant because it was used. I didn't want to pay full price for it and figured I would give it a try. After receiving this item I was very pleased. It comes to you as if it was brand new. No scratches or anything. Very pleased will order again especially from the particular seller.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Widescreen Edition) March 21, 2009 Funloven The DVD was in good condition. The plastic case it came in is very thin and not the typical DVD case that you would find in the stores, but although this is disappointing, I had expected this as it was a complaint I had read in the Customer Reviews before I made my purchase.
Evil book March 14, 2009 J. Brown (San Diego, CA) 1 out of 8 found this review helpful
The whole harry potter series of books and film is all about witchcraft. This goes against Jesus and the Bible. If you want to read a book, read the Bible. For a film watch "The Gospel Road"(1973)This great film stars Robert Elfstrom as Jesus and Johnny Cash providing narration and song. Best of all there is no flying brooms or witchcraft of any kind. Veggie Tales is also good, but you must edit out any scenes of the cucumber. This is too suggestive for children.
Entertaining, And Ranks Fairly High Among The HP Films February 20, 2009 Craig Connell (Lockport, NY USA) I thought this was better than the first Harry Potter movie because it didn't overdo the action scenes as the first film did, and the special-effects were better. It's not "Lord Of The Rings," of course, but it's still decent entertainment, even for us older folks. It got even better with the third installment, which has been my personal favorite of the lot. The special-effects are fun to watch and it was interesting to see how the three young stars - Daniel Radcliff ("Harry"), Emma Watson ("Hermione") and Rupert Grint ("Ron") have physically matured since the first movie. All of a sudden, the boys have reached puberty and their voices are changing. "Ron" squeaks half the time he talks! As with many modern-day, big-budget films, the visuals, the special-effects and the surround sound are all astounding. It's definitely entertaining for all ages with no worries about language, and the Blu-Ray editions eleveate this DVD another star. The transfers on all of them, from what I've seen and read, are fantastic.
replacement January 29, 2009 Lowell Crawford Thanks for the great service, as I had lost my other copy of the DVD, and this is a good replacement.
