More "Double-Dipping" July 4, 2009 S. Rhoades (Middle Earth) I bought the original versions on DVDwhen they were released. Then I bought the extended versions on DVD when they were released. Now we are expected to buy the theatrical releases on Blu-ray. Eventually the Extended release versions will be available on Blu-ray. As much as I love the LOTR movies. I wont be buying it FOUR times! I'll just wait for the Extended versions.
WHERE IS THE EXTENDED VERSION??? LATER??? THAT IS NOT FAIR WITH HONEST FANS! July 3, 2009 Fabio P. Cunha (Sao Paulo, SP, Brazil) I will not buy it, cause we all know they will come up with the extended versoin soon (indeed there is a link for bookings!!!). I will not waste my money now, I will wait for the extended of course!
Amazing movies!!! Terrible cash-in attempt July 3, 2009 Jason Brown (Miami, Fl USA) Blade Runner and Dark City (both New Line/Warner releases) use technology called "seamless branching" which allows for multiple versions of a movie to appear and be played back on the same disc without having redundant scenes taking up space. This means that there can easily be the theatrical edition included with separate scenes from the extended cut that could be plugged in when appropriate if that option were selected. There is absolutely no conceivable reason why this blu-ray shouldn't give fans that feature. Instead they want to screw consumers yet again in another sad attempt to release multiple versions and cash-in on the property; making you pay more, swap discs and taking up more space in your collection and if you want the full experience. As a fan, I prefer the extended cuts but as a newcomer it is much better to experience the slimmer theatrical cuts first. Considering the movies made about a billion dollars, collectively, they can't possibly be worried about poor sales for that possible ultimate edition. At least on DVD they actually said there would be extended editions before the theatricals were released. But on DVD there were technology limitations which made a believable excuse; that excuse just doesn't fly anymore. You can pretty much guarantee the extended cuts will be released at some point and for $70 there's absolutely no reason to upgrade, especially since they're screwing you in the special features department as well. The DVDs still look great upscaled and sound great so I'll stick with that until they make it worth my while.
Really? July 3, 2009 Andrew Jackson I bought both the theatrical and extended DVD editions of this movie, and I will not buy two+ versions again. I will wait for a branching Blu-ray version that has BOTH the extended and theatrical releases together. Suggestions if you want to make a GREAT blu-ray of these fantastic films to set a new standard for Blu-ray releases: - Again, branching of the theatrical and extended versions - Include ALL the special features from the extended and theatrical cuts, along with more. (examples could be a feature about bringing the trilogy to Blu, etc.) - Have important special features in 1080P. - Each FILM should have it's own disc, and not be spread among two discs (like the DVD extended edition versions). If this means putting them on a 3 layered (75GB) or 4 layered (100GB) Blu-ray disc, so be it. Several years ago Blu-ray was advertised as being able to feature 8+ layers. For those that don't like me giving it a 1 star because it's the theatrical versions, I'm rating the PRODUCT (the overall package I'm getting for my money), not the movies themselves. Although I love these films, I give it one star because we are only getting the theatrical releases here.
F--- New Line!!! July 2, 2009 J. Centeno (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We want the extended version. It's ridiculous to expect us to buy this twice.
