Amazon.com Clive Owen rollicks back into action in the second season of Chancer, the densely plotted British TV hit that shaped Owen before his rocket to stardom in American films like Croupier and Closer. Owen's character, Derek "Dex" Love, has shed his alias, Stephen Crane, and dives into his new capers with relish. Freshly out of prison, Dex has his eye on his latest scams and swindles, while grieving the death of his true love, Jo, played by the splendid English actress Susannah Harker, who happily makes regular appearances in this series in the form of flashbacks and ghostly conversations. Dex forms unlikely alliances as he takes on the evil industrialist Tom Franklyn (Peter Vaughan), who just happens to be Jo's dad. Though Dex is not exactly the most admirable protagonist, it's hard not to root for him. His determination to overcome his dodgy upbringing can be surprisingly moving: "Being born with a plastic spoon in your mouth can leave an impression," he tells a confidant. And Chancer is no lightweight trash TV, but rather, completely involving--and rewarding. --A.T. Hurley

Clive is my dude! March 20, 2008 T. Lopopolo (Coopersburg, PA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Chancer is a wonderful series made before Clive Owen was discovered by American audiences. The character he plays here is amoral, dishonest, and greedy. In short, a really compelling character in a great series.
CLASSIC BRITISH DRAMA March 13, 2008 J. M. Clunies-ross (new zealand) Clive is excellent in this british drama series, enjoyed the first chancer series, recently purchased the second series, i found the storylines more dark and compeling, i highly recommemd it, this was the catalyst for cementing clives acting career.
Second in Series Even Better March 11, 2008 M. S. Avant (San Antonio, TX) The second year in the Chancer series is even better than the first year. It is disappointing in that it has only has four episodes. The characters are brilliantly played. Clive Owen just keeps getting better with each performance.
