Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com A sweet family drama about a girl and her misunderstood horse, Moondance Alexander focuses on a teenager who is longing to fit into a world where she is considered an oddball. Though Moondance (Kay Panabaker) is cute as a button, she's saddled with an unpopular name and that, apparently, is enough to make other 15-year-old girls dislike her. But when the spunky kid finds a mischievous runaway pinto, her life changes for the better. The horse's owner is played by a gravely voiced Don Johnson, who allows Moondance to work at his stable. In return, he will also train her to ride Checkers, who is her new best friend. Moondance is convinced that Checkers is a champion jumper in the making that just needs someone to believe in him. She believes. And by the end of the movie, the parable won't be lost on anyone that in bringing out the best in Checkers, Moondance also discovers her own worth. Directed by soap opera star Michael Damian, the film has a warm, but cheesy made-for-TV vibe. The movie is not without charm. But there are virtually no surprises here, and the viewer easily guesses what will happen way before it actually does. Panabaker, Johnson and Lori Loughlin (as Moondance's mom) are all wonderful in their roles. But figure skater Sasha Cohen is sorely miscast as Moondance's high-school nemesis. --Jae-Ha Kim

Good family movie. February 1, 2010 Tiggy (North Dakota) I was a captive audience for this movie (bus trip). I was pleasantly surprised. This is a good movie for all ages, but probably more so for women, girls and young boys. I don't see men or teen boys getting overly excited about this one. While the ending is predictable, getting there is worth the watch. I liked it enough to purchase my own copy!
Moondance Alexander January 21, 2010 Karen P. Schutt This movie was fantastic. I really enjoyed it very much and recommend it to anyone who loves horses.
Wonderful film with very positive teenage role model November 30, 2009 Tracy L. Loughridge Moondance Alexander is about a young girl who develops a friendship with a horse. The girl is positive, driven, and focused. She is a fantastic role model for young people. My girls are only 6 and 7 years old -- and this was a perfectly healthy and fun G rated movie for them. We also just saw the movie "Dreamer" with Dakota Fanning -- and it was also wonderful.
Wonderful movie! September 27, 2009 J. Spehrley (Grantville, PA United States) This is a wonderful, little-known movie that is great for family viewing. Highly recommended for a family movie night or a girl-friend sleepover. Curl up with a bowl of popcorn and enjoy!
Moondance Alexander August 24, 2009 BERNARD F. CROWLEY (Sheffield Village OH) Moondance is a socially isolated teenager who misses her deceased father and who currently resides with her mother who seems to be an aging flower child who still refuses to serve beef at the dinner table. Quite by accident Moondance comes across a young horse with whom she befriends, and the story unfolds from here. A movie for the whole family with interesting subplots to add to the main theme. Watch the characters evolve as the movie unfolds to an emotional climax.
