The trailer that begins each of the three DVDs is indication enough that the release of Indiana Jones: The Adventure Collection, a boxed set of the original trilogy of blockbuster adventure films concocted by director Steven Spielberg and executive producer-story writer George Lucas, was timed to coincide with the May 2008 theatrical release of the long-awaited fourth installment, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Whether that's a crass marketing ploy or simply good business is hardly the point, because considering the quality of the movies (in a word, they're good), the affordable price, and especially the raft of new special features accompanying the set, there's enough here to make this an appealing purchase for those who don't already own them and a tempting one for those who do. The first of the three films, Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), is also the best, a certified classic loaded with non-stop action, grand spectacle, a hero for the ages (played by Harrison Ford), a beautiful love interest, humor, horror, and a potent storyline that brings together a profound religious-archaeological icon (the Ark of the Covenant, nothing less than "a radio for speaking to God") and the 20th century's most infamous villains (the Nazis). Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), the second entry, is generally considered the weakest of the lot--certainly it is the most dark and disturbing--but it's still very entertaining, while The Last Crusade (1989) is closer to Raiders in many respects, with fine acting contributions from River Phoenix (as the teenage Indy) and Sean Connery (as Indy's father), a strong James Bond-type feel, and the return of the Nazis, who this time are competing for another antiquity of incalculable value and significance (the Holy Grail). Although the collection is missing the extra bonus disc (with a two-hour "making of" documentary) that accompanied the 2003 DVD issue of the films, all three discs include new and insightful introductions by Spielberg and Lucas; there are also storyboards from various scenes and photo galleries on each disc. Among the best of the other features are "The Creepy Crawlies" (about the thousands of snakes, bugs, rats and other scary critters that populate the trilogy), "Travels with Indy" (a look at some of the exotic locations where the movies were filmed), "Indy's Women" (a candid discussion with leading ladies Karen Allen, Kate Capshaw, and Alison Doody), and a behind-the-scenes detailing of the "melting face" effect seen in Raiders' thrilling ark-opening scene. --Sam Graham

Enjoyed all the films in this collection. Since I am a little older than Harrison Ford it was great seeing him in those films again. My favorite was "The Last Crusade", which was extremely action-packed and had the tremendous Sean Connery in it. I think the collection would appeal to everyone from 13 to 100 or even older!

I will rate the three movies like this: First, Raiders of the lost Ark was the first one made and strangly they improve the newer they get. Raiders of the lost ark is good, it has what I call "pit-stops" as you watch it seem to just make the movie longer without extra information. Temple of Doom is a one star in my book, it was a total dissapointment, I didn't like one part of it and would not recomend it to anyone. The last Crusade is a five Star, It was very fun and seemed to keep flowing, it has many funny parts and sets well with viewers. I know this set doesn't have the Kingdom of the Crystal skull in it But I would rate it at a four star, a littly to cheesy with the aliens.

Here we go, another Indiana Jones movie premiering - and so of course, here is another collection of the previous Indiana Jones movie releases, all in a neat and tidy slipcase, almost exactly the size of a single VHS cassette in slipcase... Please, Grandma, what was VHS; I seem to hear my grandchildren of the future gathering around my senior-citizen issue rocking-chair and asking. Pah, my little darlings - let me tell you about Umatic format, with the millions of little screws holding the whole darned thing together - now that was a video format with hair on it's chest!
Indiana Jones, hair on chest... Pardon the momentary distraction... back to the topic at hand - the new Indiana Jones movie collection.
The movies themselves hold up rather well; how original it seemed when "Raiders of the Lost Ark" returned to pure entertainment; how cheerfully bare of anything socially relevant and meaningful! Just pure fun, returning to a cliff-hanging Saturday morning matinee adventure serial, with improbable feats, wicked villains, a stalwart hero, exotic locations, hidden treasure, lots of creepy crawly critters and a gorgeous and feisty leading lady... OK, Willi Scott in "The Temple of Doom" screamed too much - obviously a little short in the feisty department. And having children in peril is somewhat of a no-no. Cliff-hanging - oh, boy - the scene over the gorge just about defined that particular element. The Last Crusade featured the incomparable Sean Connery, and a return of some familiar sidekicks (Marcus and Salah), plus those indefatigable all-purpose villains, the Nazis. What would thrillers have to do for villains if they didn't have Nazis? I swear, I think there must be a secret cave under Hollywood somewhere, where the last few remaining Nazis are kept on life-support, perhaps fed on the blood of virgins and wheeled out on a dolly for appearances as the Only Remaining Politically Correct Villain Which Will Not Permanently Piss Off the General Movie-Going American Public - and tax the movie making credentials of those last two or three directors who still make movies for that niche audience, of course. I am certain that the whole series did wonders as far as recruiting archeologists - who wouldn't want to be Indiana Jones?
Returning to the topic at hand - each individual movie has the relevant extras included on the disc (not as a separate disc, as was done in the last slip-cased all-in-one release) and each of them with a promo for the Kingdom of the Crystal SkullIndiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull [Blu-ray] . OK, so consider the point made and pounded in with a sledgehammer already. The best of the lot is a short feature on how they made the incredible melting face in "Raiders", and a retrospective discussion titled "Indy's Women Reminisce". Fortunately for this feature they only included the three ladies from the movies - not from the "Young Indiana Jones" TV series. (In that case, they might have needed a stage the size of the Met Opera to hold them all.)

Being a big fan of Harrison Ford, I got to the point with my old VHS movies that I just had to have the DVD versions. I have not been disappointed. The image and sound qualities are excellent and I appreciate the slim DVD cases since we have a storage issue.

I have been a fan of these movies for years. I saw every one at the theatre, there's nothing like seeing these on the big screen! I was happy to be able to purchase them all in one set for such a great price. If you like adventure movies or are simply in the mood for something where you don't really want to concentrate alot, you just want to escape from reality then these are the flicks for you. There's lots of action, great special effects, costumes. . . What can I say, it's just fun.
