Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com The second season of the cult favorite Jericho shows in gritty, emotional detail why fans adore this show. It's intelligently written, and manages to make its out-there concept not only believable, but mesmerizing. Part post-apocalyptic sci-fi, part Western, part conspiracy thriller, and part juicy human drama, Jericho in its second season explores how the citizens of wee Jericho, Kansas, are coping six months after a nuclear bomb destroyed most of the town--and the fabric of the country. The layers of character and plot development, rare on network TV, continue to surprise and develop. Our hero, Jake (Skeet Ulrich), is helping put the pieces of his town and life back together, while hostile forces from neighboring towns plan attacks. And the mysterious Robert Hawkins (Lennie James) is hiding in town with a literal smoking gun--a nuclear warhead that may prove the attacks were carried out not by Iran and North Korea, but by internal forces. Hawkins is on the run, and Jake is in on his secret. Amid all this chaos arrives Major Beck (the charismatic Esai Morales), who's been sent by the acting Western government to instill order in Jericho. "The nightmare is over," he intones to the shaken townsfolk. "Order will be restored." The nightmare is far from over, however, which accounts for Jericho's intense drama and creative storytelling. The viewer is never totally sure whom to believe, keeping the viewer just off kilter just enough to want to watch another episode, and then another. Extras on the boxed set include terrific audio commentaries on virtually every episode, which lend even greater appreciation to the set designers and cinematographers. There's a featurette, "Rebuilding Jericho," giving fans insight to the conception of a post-apocalyptic America, and deleted scenes, and perhaps most interesting to devoted fans, an alternate unaired ending to the season finale--worth watching just to see where the creators imaginations can take them. --A.T. EXCELLENT SCI-FI (apocolypse story) May 19, 2009 C. Murphey (Tupelo, MS. USA) Jericho Seasons One and Two are both very well done; and both are excellent for a story of a secluded USA town which survived Nuclear War. The characters in Jericho become very familiar and real; and the plot is superb and well done. I really enjoyed Jericho Seasons One AND Two.
Lost a outstanding program April 23, 2009 Diane Dile I am so sorry to see this progream cancelled, I followed this from the start to the end and it was great, great great and am so sorry to see it end. I keep hoping someone will pick it up again?
Not nearly as great as Season 1, but still worthy of being great April 19, 2009 Adam (Minneapolis, MN USA) When a new little series about a nuclear holocaust was scheduled to appear on CBS, I was doubtful that it would capture my interest, nonetheless the interest of the general TV viewing public. However, being a little curious, I opted to invest some time on Wednesday nights to watch. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Jericho quickly became my new favorite TV show and something I eagerly awaited each week, which says a lot seeing I don't normally look forward to TV shows. However, with most people being too inept to understand anything more than reality TV shows, the ratings plummetted and the show was cancelled after season 1. But, it was not gone for good, as a passionate and loyal fan base urged CBS to bring it back. Thus, Season 2 was produced. Ending at Season 1, the show had to drastically change its focus. Rather than being a small town "lost" in the wilderness, Jericho became a town caught in the midst of a newly formed country, the "Allied States of America". In contrast to the United States (which still exists east of the Mississippi), the Allied States is more controlling, using an extended version of the Patriot Act and torture to often get its way. Making matters worse, the country's military force is Ravenwood, a government defense contractor similar to Blackwater that has negative ties toward Jericho in Season 1. Now, Jericho residents are caught in the balance with the decision of whether to accept the new government or resist it. I will not give away the ending, but will hint that it is leading towards the beginnings of revolution. Overall, Season 2 was not nearly as good as Season 1, but it was still good to watch and offered closure. Only 7 episodes were filmed in Season 2 because of the writer's strike and CBS opting for a mid-season run, but they are all, for the most part, very action packed and move the storyline along. I was a little disappointed that several of the characters did not maintain powerful roles (i.e. Jake's Mother). Additionally, I felt that, between Season 1 and Season 2 in the Jericho world, too much information and modern technology was gained (i.e. knowledge of the bombed cities, cell phones and electric grid technology). But, in the end, I am glad CBS opted to run with these episodes. I would highly recommend Season 2 to Jericho fans, as well as recommend Jericho to anybody curious.
The Best ever April 9, 2009 E. Dillard (OREGON) Jericho is the best show I have ever watched and it gives us a glimpse of what could come... I rate this series a ten. My husband and I are so disappointed that the show was canceled after the second series. Jake is my hero....
A great second season! March 2, 2009 Adi Adler (Atlanta, GA United States) Jericho's first season was a great drama, so many people didn't understand why the show was canceled. After an extensive fan campain during which quite a few tons of peanuts were sent to CBS, the show was brought back for a seven episode second season. Unfortunately, the extremely short season hadn't allowed the writers to include all the materials they've wanted, mostly inspectic facets of life outside of Jericho & its neighboring town of New Bern. Changing the course of the show from mere survivalism after the bombs initially fell to the next stage of rebuilding the country with the aid of the new government & the military. Of course changes must come, not all of them pleasant, and our characters must face them... As far as the packaging - while being a small one, it is full of great features - such as a full length commentary for each and every episode.
