Amazon.com For those who believe true love lasts beyond this physical plane, P.S. I Love You is a jewel in the romantic-movie crown. With elements of Ghost, Heaven Can Wait, and My Life, the film is an unabashed valentine to the notion of lasting (everlasting?) love. Hilary Swank is Holly, a deeply happy lass married to the most impossibly adorable Irishman on the planet, Gerry (Gerard Butler). When an illness takes him from her, Holly spirals into depression. Then, as if from beyond the grave, communications, gifts, and remembrances from Gerry begin to appear--gestures he'd planned knowing his death was coming. The "communications" with her dead husband could threatened to keep Holly in past, yet they begin to pave a path into her future. Swank, not a traditional romantic actress, is quite moving as Holly, whose grief and confusion is palpable. Butler will win new continents of fans, largely female, as the yummiest honey one could wish for. Special kudos to the supporting cast, including Lisa Kudrow as a Holly pal, and James Marsters and Kathy Bates, always breaths of fresh air onscreen. Under the sure hand of director-writer Richard LaGravenese, P.S. I Love You is touching, sad (have tissues on hand), and heartbreakingly lovely. --A.T. Hurley
Product Description Holly Kennedy (Hilary Swank) is beautiful, smart, and married to the love of her life--a passionate, funny and impetuous Irishman named Gerry (Gerard Butler). So when Gerry's life is taken by an illness, it takes the life out of Holly. The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there. Nobody knows Holly better than Gerry. So it's a good thing he planned ahead. Before he died, Gerry wrote Holly a series of letters that will guide her, not only through her grief but in rediscovering herself. The first message arrives on Holly's 30th birthday in the form of a cake and, to her utter shock, a tape recording from Gerry, who proceeds to order her to get out and "celebrate herself." In the weeks and months that follow, more letters from Gerry are delivered in surprising ways, each sending her on a new adventure and each signing off in the same way: P.S. I Love You. Holly's mother (Kathy Bates) and best friends, Denise (Lisa Kudrow) and Sharon (Gina Gershon), begin to worry that Gerry's letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but, in fact, each letter is pushing her further into a new future. With Gerry's words as her guide, Holly embarks on a touching, exciting and often hilarious journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life.

A wonderful chic flick. June 24, 2009 Flybaby Liz (Indiana USA) This was a wonderful movie but you may need a few tissues to get you through it. It's really touching and you won't be disappointed with the story line. It's about a couple deeply in love and the husband dies leaving her to find her way without him. It's moving, funny, adventurous, touches on mother/daughter conflicts, and, of course, romance. This is one I will watch again and again.
I Gave It a Chance June 18, 2009 jessjess I admit, I avoided this movie for a while because I do not particularly care for Hilary Swank. Finally one night, being alone, and with few options of movies to watch in the ON-DEMAND library, I decided to give it a go. This is what I liked about it: 1. The story was mostly about Holly and Gerry, and was not the context of her next relationship. 2. I worried that his letters would only cause her to hold to his memory all the more, but was pleased to see how they freed her to continue her life. 3. Her grieving process was real. At the risk of sounding morbid, I have to say it pleased me to see her go through intense grief. It made her character more real and likable and also gave credit to the strength of their marriage. This is why I only gave it three stars (if I could have given it a rating of 3.5, I would have): 1. This is a minor one--all those designer clothes from eBay? Yeah right. 2. (Spoiler alert) She does have a bit of a fling in the middle. Not to be a prude but I didn't really see it as adding anything to the story except for giving it a sex scene.
Wonderfully written, created and acting superb! June 9, 2009 Windy Pine (along the creek, WA USA) My husband does not usually like romantic movies... but he was moved and very touched by this one and had been recommending it to his friends!
Wow... June 2, 2009 Jessica Shook (Colorado USA) The first time I watched it... I cried for about 87% of the movie. It was about 5 minutes of crying, 1 minute of not crying through the whole movie. I watched it a second time and it was about 30% crying... Very good performances from everyone.
A Favorite! May 25, 2009 bookladynan P.S. I Love You has become one of my favorite movies. I saw it in the theater when it first came out, but being able to watch the DVD has made it really special. The music and scenery are beautiful. The movie runs the gamut of emotions from happiness to grief to hope not to mention just laughing out loud. I ordered the book from which the movie was adapted and enjoyed it as well.
