Amazon.com Like its predecessor Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve is a piffle of a caper, a preposterous plot given juice and vitality by a combination of movie star glamour and the exuberant filmmaking skill of director Steven Soderbergh (Out of Sight, The Limey). The heist hijinks of the first film come to roost for a team of eleven thieves (including the glossy mugs of Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Bernie Mac, and Don Cheadle), who find themselves pursued not only by the guy they robbed (silky Andy Garcia), but also by a top-notch detective (plush Catherine Zeta-Jones) and a jealous master thief (well-oiled Vincent Cassel) who wants to prove that team leader Danny Ocean (dapper George Clooney) isn't the best in the field. As if all that star power weren't enough--and the eternally coltish Julia Roberts also returns as Ocean's wife--one movie star cameo raises the movie's combined wattage to absurd proportions. But all these handsome faces are matched by Soderbergh's visual flash, cunning editing, and excellent use of Amsterdam, Paris, and Rome, among other highly decorative locations. The whole affair should collapse under the weight of its own silliness, but somehow it doesn't--the movie's raffish spirit and offhand wit soar along, providing lightweight but undeniable entertainment. --Bret Fetzer

Watch this to cure insomnia. February 6, 2010 Thucydides 1 (USA) To the other commentary already posted in abundance, I'd only add that with so much monotone, dull, emotionless dialogue delivery, this movie is, at least, a cure for insomnia. I fell asleep twice trying to watch it, although I did catch the last 25 minutes, or so. And, that last 25 minutes was boring, too. Sigh(!) I'm glad I spend almost nothing for it, at the throwout kiosk in Walmart.
I did give the "movie" two stars instead of one, which it deserved, because I enjoyed looking at a number of the European city scenes and period-sets. Very lovely, and a welcome distraction from the leaden, hum-drum diaglogue that just went on, and on.
This really was sort of "film party", where a bunch of actors got together and simply had a good time while the cameras were rolling. I wonder if it was really intended to be a "movie" after all....
Ocean's Twelve January 21, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Three years after pulling an impossible heist of a three-casino vault Daniel Ocean's Eleven plus wife Tess have been found and fingered by Terry Benedict. Mr. Benedict has promised the provider of the information to show restraint and give the clan two weeks to repay him with interest to the tune of over $190 million. Without a job that can provide that kind of pay off, the gang must accept the challenge of premier thief Francois Toulour to see who can steal a famous work of art first and claim the title of greatest thief ever. If you want to see a delightfully inventive artsy masterpiece Ocean's twelve is the one for you.
A good comedy that gets better with each viewing January 10, 2010 Centauri Ocean's 12 stands on its own merits as a comedy and the funniest addition to the franchise. The dialogue is witty and fast paced. Repeat viewings or "rewinds" may be necessary to catch all of the gags. However, the height of the hilarity comes in the Tess impersonates "Julia Roberts" sequence, with Bruce Willis contributing to the lunacy!
Add this to your collection if you want a movie that will make you laugh and smile throughout!
The weakest of the three by FAR November 30, 2009 Rev. Pee Kitty (North Atlanta Metro, GA, US) Quick Summary:
Imagine if the Ocean's crew were dropped, without explanation, into a non-comedic version of the old Pink Panther movies, while the director tried to pretend that it hadn't happened.
Full version:
After the success of the excellent Ocean's Eleven, the studio was under pressure to quickly capitalize on it. They needed a sequel, and they needed one NOW. Unfortunately, writing a good screenplay takes time, so they decided to adapt an existing one. Someone tracked down a decent script involving an ensemble cast of thieves, and a team of writers hastily swapped the Ocean's crew in instead and added some ties to the first film.
The result? A film that feels like what it is -- a patchwork, overdone monstrosity. The plot makes no real sense -- the action is easy enough to follow but the characters' motivations don't make any sense. The ending has two "big reveals", one of which you see coming from a mile away. The other... is one of those twists that you don't see coming only because there was never once a hint of foreshadowing. One that has to "cheat" by being completely hidden, because if they had even hinted at it (like with a good twist), you would've seen THAT one coming as well.
All in all, a clunky mish-mash of attempted action, attempted suspense, attempted comedy, and bad plot twists. Save your money and skip right from Ocean's Eleven to Ocean's Thirteen. You won't regret it, and you don't need to know a thing about this movie to understand it. (Well, okay, ONE thing -- the stereotypical French burglar makes a cameo in 13 near the end. Now that you know that, you won't be wondering, "Who is that guy?" Now please, skip this movie.)
very well orchestrated. September 12, 2009 Princess Kelly (Saint Louis, Missouri) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
this movie is very well played,by all parties involved which i wasnt sure it would be since there are so many individuals involved in it.
