Product Description Bluray Disc
Amazon.com Hewing closer to Paul Verhoeven's original and much-maligned Starship Troopers than the all-brawn-no-brains sequel, Hero of the Federation, Starship Troopers 3: Marauder blends high-power action with a dose of socio-political commentary in its story of gung-ho Marines versus insidious alien bugs. Ed Neumeier, who penned the Verhoeven film, is back as writer and director, as is Casper Van Dien as lantern-jawed hero Johnny Rico. Now a full-fledged colonel, he is dispatched to a planet where the military faces opposition from both the insect army and dissenting citizens. But after a trumped-up murder charge lands him on death row, Rico discovers that he's being sent on a secret mission to rescue a Sky Marshal (Stephen Anouke) who's gone missing deep in bug territory. Neumeier uses the well-worn military movie tropes to launch a satiric assault on all manner of current real world issues, from ultra-patriotism and military torture to religious fundamentalism and even pop culture as propaganda (Anouke's sky marshal is also a chart-topping singer). He lands a fair share of his jabs, and those that fall flat--Marnette Patterson's grating flight attendant--are tempered by sights like a ring of mechanical warrior 'bots forming an angelic halo. Unfortunately, said special effects are not particularly special, with the robots--the Marauders of the title--arriving far too late in the game. But with so many direct-to-DVD genre titles delivering little more than shoot-em-ups and CGI demonstrations, the tinge of black humor that runs through Starship Troopers 3 is appreciated. The disc includes two commentaries, one featuring Neumeier, Van Dien and Jolene Blalock (Enterprise), and the other with Neumeier and producer David Lancaster; a featurette on the new bugs on display in Troopers 3, as well as interviews with the movie's soldiers, round out the extra features. --Paul Gaita

Cheesy campy fun! June 27, 2009 One-Line Film Reviews (Ann Arbor) The Bottom Line: The special effects are laughably terrible (notice how you never see a bug get shot since that's more complicated CGI) and the acting and writing are a joke but the movie's so much fun you'll hardly notice; whether you're a fan or not of the first one you'll almost certainly enjoy this silly little film with its light satire and catchy theme song. 2.5/4
com on ya apes are ya gonna snore forever June 6, 2009 Jeff Dale Ford (mississippi) when the movie first started i knew there was a problem wheres the title music from the 1st two movies?, the dialogue of this film was crappy, dont get me wrong im glad casper is back and all but geez this film will put you to sleep quick, it doesnt even match up to hero of the federation...and that one was pretty bad,you will not want to rewatch this film if you can get thru it the first time. all we can do is hope the next one redeems the series.
strarship troopers 3 May 13, 2009 Donna Young (USA) This was a good movie. Much better than no 2 but not better than the original. I was close to the original concept. I really enjoyed this movie. It was worth watching.
Let the bugs win! May 7, 2009 John D. Aldridge (Waimanalo, Hawaii) If you are wanting for another taste of Starship Troopers well here it is. The script is mostly ludicrious, but it does strive to rise above being just a mindless pure action story. The military angle is especially unrealistic. The direction is both ackward and amateurist, and puts you off from getting involved in the story. This francise has a good basic concept, I would like to see someone who has a correct approach tackle it.
A good day to die indeed April 19, 2009 zl21 (California) Oh my god is this a horrible movie. If someone said "go and make the worst Starship Trooper movie possible", it would look just like this...only better. The acting is a atrocious, the story is convoluted and the special effects are pathetic. What were they thinking? Why was this movie even made? Who signed off on this flick? Why did I buy it at the video store? Well, actually I know why I bought it. The first Starship Trooper movie is one of my guilty pleasures. It's campy sci-fi fun with battles against killer space bugs. The second movie wasn't very good but it was at least watchable. There are so many things wrong with this movie and so few right I'm not even sure where to begin....How about the fact that the only thing keeping back the horde of killer bugs is the electrical fence and no one thinks maybe they should have a back up generator or something. Oops! Power failure. Time to die. And what is with the singing Air Marshall? Is this a joke? "It's a Good Day to Die?" Who could of possibly thought that was a good idea? It's unreal. And why did they feel it was necessary to bring religion into this? It served absolutely no purpose. When they start reciting The Lords Prayer is one of the films many low points. Another is when we have to watch two bone heads kiss while they completely block the view of the exploding planet. The climatic scene no less. Ugh! But the lowest point of the film comes when the marines have to strip down to get fitted for there "Marauder" battle suits. You can just hear the director saying "ok, this film is going pretty good but we really need to see some naked people." It is so pointless and the dialog in the scene is so bad it will leave you speechless. I am giving this film one star. Not because it deserves a star but because Amazon wont let me give it less.
