Amazon.com Too often, sequels to popular films simply rehash the original film; call it the carbon-copy syndrome. Grease 2 suffers from no such malady, having almost nothing to do with the original film. Sure, it focuses on teens at Rydell High, the imaginary school from the first film, which starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. But other than a few of the teachers, all of the characters are new and so are the songs--and more's the pity. By the time Grease hit the big screen, it already had had almost a decade as a theatrical musical, more than enough time to hone its mock-rock & roll score. But this sequel, which stars among others a then-unknown Michelle Pfeiffer, Maxwell Caulfield, and Lorna Luft (Judy Garland's daughter), has music that's neither fish nor fowl, neither rock nor Broadway. Meanwhile, the plot is a reversal of the first film, in which a cool guy fell for a square girl. In this one, the square is newcomer Caulfield, who catches the eye of tough girl Pfeiffer and her Pink Lady gang. The appearance of such pseudo-stars of the '50s, like Tab Hunter, is supposed to lend a nostalgic kick, but let's just say that Grease 2 slides almost instantly into obscurity. --Marshall Fine

Not even good enough to be a guilty pleasure July 1, 2009 E. Von Ray (United States) Of all the sequels ever made, and there have been some bad ones, Grease 2 may very well be the worst of the lot. Not a single actor is memorable, except for being BAD, not a single song is even a little bit catchy, the routines are void of life and energy, and the story itself is a retread of Grease with genders switched. Avoid this film at ALL costs.
aged June 25, 2009 Brian Cabana (gorham nh) I've read alot of the reviews of Grease2 on this sight and must say I agree with most of the bad ones,It is a pretty badly acted, badly written movie,Not to mention the dumb songs But the one thing that I've read alot is about the ages of the cast being too old, butif you look at Grease1 John Travolta was 24 and the youngest of the leads. Olivia Newton-John was 30 at the time Jeff Conaway was 28 and most laughably Stockard Channing was 34 yrs old.and looked like a high schooler like I at 46 look like a high schooler. But the most laughable part is that Stephanie looks at the "Cool Rider" in the face albeit while he is wearing goggles and doesn't have a clue????as to who he is.The music is pure 80s kitsch and not anything 50s or 60s. Lorna Luft WTF she sucks and blows at the same time .she can't act can't sing and she's 30 yrs. old and looks 40. Maybe there wasn't a script at all and they told the "actors" to act like people would believe they were a tough gang. And the girls to act like they were empty headed bimbos who all the other students at Rydell would respect and fear.or maybe the script writers were high and or drunk and it sounded good at the time.

Deplorable Sequel with Forgettable Music, Poor Plot & Bad Story February 22, 2009 M. Hart (USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Four years after the highly successful comedy/musical "Grease" hit the big screen in 1978, an attempt was made to cash-in once more with a ill-conceived, poorly written sequel named "Grease 2". Directed by Patricia Birch (who had worked as a choreographer on the original "Grease") and written by Ken Finkleman (who also wrote & directed the equally deplorable "Airplane II: The Sequel" the same year), this film's utterly unoriginal plot finds yet another Aussie student enrolling at Rydel High, and there, becoming smitten with a local American girl. The clean-cut Aussie student, Michael Carrington (Maxwell Caulfield, who is from Scotland, not Australia), in order to win the affections of Pink Lady Stephanie Zinone (Michelle Pfeiffer) must find a way to be accepted into this now motorcycle-obsessed counter-culture. He gets a job, starts building a motorcycle from scratch, starts doing homework for the unremarkable T-Birds, oh, and agrees to perform in the school's talentless "talent" show. Clearly having nothing else to do on their schedules, several actors from the original 1978 "Grease" reprized their roles in this atrocious sequel to try and give it some legitimacy: Frenchy (Didi Conn) who apparently never graduated, Principal McGee (Eve Arden, 1908-1990), Coach Calhoun (Sid Caesar) and Blanche Hodel (1914-2008). I am very happy to report that the creators of the original "Grease", Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey (1935-1988), had absolutely nothing to do with this celluloid disaster. With an estimated $13.2-million budget, the film never earned that much in its combined box-office receipts. It's also doubtful whether revenue from rentals & DVD/VHS sales ever put this bomb into the black. Overall, my rating for "Grease 2" is 1 out of 5 stars. I doubt Michelle Pfeiffer keeps this film on her resume.
great movie September 10, 2008 ANVIL 1/73 (VIRGINIA) Yeah, Okay. It has been said the second coming is not as great as the first. Disagree. Grease 2 Hit a number 1 in my book. It has the characters we have all dreamed of being at one time or another, especially Michael, he wants the girl that doesn't want him, until finally he goes over the top to win her heart and succeeds. The movie doesn't really start out this way until about halfway through and then you figure it out. The hero reveals himself in a way that kind of makes you say "what, that's it?" But you soon realize there was no better way to do it than to just do it. The performances were great, the music was upbeat and followed the story quite well. It takes you into an alternate reality that you somehow wish you could be a part of, but only to an extent. I highly recommend this movie.
