Another case for Simon Pegg's genius February 6, 2010 Joel Naticchioni (Lowell, MA) Following in the tradition of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Simon Pegg shows his comedic chops again. Great get-back-the-girl, fight-for-your-love comedy.
Underdog February 6, 2010 A. Kim (Anaheim, CA USA) This movie is not very well known but it really should be! It's definitely a feel good movie and very inspiring. It might make you want to get up and run. =)
It's a romantic-comedy January 5, 2010 VZ (Charleston, SC United States) As others have said, this movie is no Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. It is, however, a decent movie.
Simon Pegg plays a guy who left his preggers girlfriend at the altar. Skip forward a few years and he's an out of shape security guard at a mall. His ex-girlfriend is seeing another man who is in decently good shape--but he's a tool. This kind of sets off some competition in Simon Pegg's character and he decides to get in shape too. Dylan Moran (of Black Books fame) plays a friend that has a gambling problem, and has bet that Simon's character can finish a marathon. ...and Simon's trying ever-so-hard to get his woman back, which he realizes he should have never left, while training like mad to be able to do this marathon run.
I thought the best scenes were the ones with Dylan Moran in them. He basically plays the same character he did in Black Books (which is a great 3 season BBC show... Check it out!). Simon Pegg is pretty good in this, but it's not the same as you're probably used to from this actor.
It's worth a watch, but you may never watch it again. Once will probably be enough for you. Maybe rent/Netflix it instead.
Would not watch again June 18, 2009 Derek A. Montemayor (Portland, OR) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just really found myself bored with this movie and how it fed off actors past hits to get anyone to even watch it. Sometimes it is okay to admit that a movie is bad even if you like the people in it. Just my opinion and this movie did not appeal to know if they should make it funny or dramatic.
Get this movie March 25, 2009 C. Ausburn (San Diego CA) You should really consider this movie. It is cheesy and cheeky at the same time. It is not a Oscar winning film, no. But it is a good quality, very well written and very easy to relate to type of movie. I got it on sale as well.
I have yet to see anything that Simon Pegg was in that wasn't brilliant.
If you take movies too seriously, this is not the best movie for you. It is a very goofy romantic comedy, definitely good for a date.
