Amazon.com Punisher: War Zone cannot be adequately described as "over the top"--it's a relentless catalogue of brutal mayhem punctuated, here and there, with outrageous sentimentality. Frank Castle, a.k.a. The Punisher (Ray Stevenson, Rome) has dedicated his life to killing the kind of gangsters who murdered his family. But when he unknowingly kills an undercover FBI agent, Castle falls into a crisis of conscience and decides to lay down his guns. Unfortunately, one of the last gangsters he thought he'd killed survived, albeit horribly disfigured, and seeks revenge on the wife and daughter of that slain FBI agent--so Castle has to go one last spree of vigilante justice! But this plot summary will not prepare you for the jolting violence of Punisher: War Zone; rarely do more than a few minutes go by without startling physical savagery, particularly to people's heads, which get blown apart with numbing frequency. This violence somehow goes hand in hand with dizzyingly saccharine moments when a young girl gazes at Castle with trusting eyes, knowing in her heart that he's the only one who can protect her. The dialogue goes beyond cliche into tough guy baroque. Stevenson underplays Castle to good effect, because everyone else in the movie--including Dominic West (The Wire), Doug Hutchison (The Green Mile), and Wayne Knight (Seinfeld)--chews the scenery like it's slathered with gravy. Some viewers will find this movie revolting; others will worship it like a golden calf. You probably know where you stand. --Bret Fetzer

This movie kicks ass! February 6, 2010 Austin Everhardt (Planet Earth) First thing people think when they hear about this movie, is "its got different actors and its not Tom Jane". Well the first Punisher was awsome, this one is even better! The Punisher War Zone shows the gritty, violent, and uncomfortable life of Frank Castle!. Anyone who grew up with the comics will love this. Its the most faithful comic movie ive seen in a while! Now I will say the acting is at times kind of rediculous, but you get used to it in the first 10 minutes when Punisher is whipping out an entire mob house! So I HIGHLY recommend this movie for action lovers! I saw this movie the first day in theaters, then bought it at midnight at a 24 hour wallmart when it was realesed on DVD! This movie never bores me, I can watch it over and ober and still be amazed, so go ahead and buy it, you wont be dissappointed!
pretty good February 6, 2010 Justin P. Hobson was a double sided DVD, was suspicious at first because it seemed like it may have been a burned copy, still am skeptical. but otherwise, fantastic price, and super fast shipping. loved it!
Punisher: War Zone January 24, 2010 roadrunner (Orlando, FL) This movie is made for action lovers with weak minds. It is not even close to being as good as the first Punisher. The story line is weak, boring and then they throw in enough curse words to make a sailor blush. When will movie makers learn that ideas can be expressed in english without having to throw in cursing. I was very disappointed after seeing the first Punisher.
Third times the Charm!!!! January 9, 2010 Khiron Samerotti (Stratford, Connecticut USA) If you like shoot them up bang bang action this is a movie you'll love. If you follow the comic book you should also love this movie. The 1980's version captured the character but is dated and cliche. The 2004 version didn't really capture the darkness of Frank Castle in my opinion even down to many of the action scenes being childish.
This movie captured the full aspect of the character with brutal action that did not hold back. The Punisher had more than just a few guns and a knife he had an entire arsenal and this is the only movie where his fighting skills as a special forces officer came out in all there glory. It's also the only movie of the three to follow the comic book with his sidekick Microchip. I also think that people who are not into comics and just want a good action movie will enjoy this as well it's quick and too the point in every way.
This movie kind of stinks, but January 6, 2010 J Petrille (NYC) Dominic West as Jigsaw was cool. A real scenery-chewer, if you dig. (Weird--West was my least favorite part of The Wire and my favorite part of this movie.) The look of the movie was hard to place--too high contrast and neon colors. It's an ugly movie. The violence is unapologetic. There's some half-assed attempt at examining the morality of vengeance which is pretty dam hypocritical given the setting. Bottom line: if you want a fun vengeance movie with a bad-ass villain, Punisher: War Zone may be for you.
