What defines success? For Miami executive Lucy Hill (Renee Zellweger), it's climbing the corporate ladder, so when her company needs someone to automate and reconfigure a food plant in a rural town in Minnesota, Lucy volunteers figuring the temporary move will lead to a big promotion. Intent on sweeping into town, mechanizing the factory, and reducing the staff by 50 percent, Lucy has no intention of letting anyone or anything stand in her way. Disdain doesn't begin to describe what Lucy feels about the small-town residents and their obsession with scrapbooking, propensity to bring up Jesus in casual conversation, and outdated visions of what comprises an appropriate female role model. Union leader Ted (Harry Connick Jr.), plant manager Stu (J. K. Simmons), and secretary Blanche (Siobhan Fallon) bear the brunt of Lucy's scorn, but even as she focuses on carrying out her business agenda, Lucy inexplicably finds herself drawn to those same inhabitants. My husband and I enjoyed this movie. Yes, the story line is predictable, like most romantic comedies. We actually laughed loudly several times, and had a smile the rest of the time. Which we have not done in quite awhile, watching other comedies. My husband, not a movie watcher, actually talked about this movie the following morning. Typically I don't purchase movies, this one I will.

No one that I have met!!
The movie takes place in New Ulm, Minnesota, polka city.
I suppose the protrayal of the small town folks, in the way they talked, was part
of the humor.
Renee Zellweger is great in this movie. She played a big city girl to a tee. She came across
as a cut-throat, there to do her job. She never suspected that she would like these people though,
whose jobs she would have to cut.
Humor was throughout the movie. The romance was a little lame, Otherwise, all in all,
I enjoyed the movie.

Renee Zellweger is a business women sent to snowy Minnesota to improve the company's manufactering plant. Along the way she meets Harry Connick Jr who is the Union Rep and they are attracked to eachother. It is a cute film where you see Renee's character change from the tough business women to someone who enjoys small town life but is still very serious about her job. She manages to do alot of great things for the manufacturing plant and wins her employees over with her dedication. There really aren't alot of laughs in this movie. But this movie is cute and enjoyable. Its a very nice romantic comedy with a modern message.

I bought this in early December when all the sales were going on. It was much cheaper than it is now. And still I don't think it was worth the price. Most of the acting was pretty poor. I might have laughed once and cracked a few smiles during the comedic moments. I have no idea why the average rating is 3.5 stars. But it was almost as cheap as a movie rental so I bought it thinking maybe I'd like it.
A big reason for this purchase was my boyfriend's nostalgia for Minnesota. Turns out there are very little shots of scenery, and when there are shots of scenery, it could be any snowy Anytown, USA. Yawn. Also, Harry Connick Jr. is just an okay actor. He and Renee Zellweger do not have screen chemistry at all.
At the end of the movie, some of the shots are clearly repeated in order to save money. Beware silly "flashback" montage.
For the record, I am a big fan of rom-coms and have a high tolerance for silly movies, but this one most def did not cut it.
