| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Director Harold Ramis leans away from the Groundhog Day side of his personality and toward the Caddyshack side with Year One, a broad comedy set in more-or-less ancient times. The film's cockeyed timeline puts two wandering cavemen (Jack Black and Michael Cera) through a rapid-fire series of biblical events: Cain (David Cross) slaying Abel (Paul Rudd), Abraham (Hank Azaria) preparing to smite his son Isaac (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), and everybody converging on Sodom, the Genesis equivalent of Las Vegas. The jokes range from droll religious references to Apatow-ready testicular gags, but almost all of the real humor comes from the efforts of the performers to put things across. Black and Cera couldn't be more different in their styles, but each manages to conjure up some laughs just by working in his particular vein: one can appreciate Black's exuberant extrovert pouncing all over the material like a needy Golden Retriever and also savor Cera's muttering wallflower as he flicks in his sidelong observations. Azaria and Oliver Platt are given very long leashes--they know what to do with that kind of room--and Ramis himself plays a mighty-bearded Adam, but it's all not quite enough to prevent Year One from falling into that hard-luck zone with Caveman and Wholly Moses: one more comedy that suggests the ancient world wasn't really all that funny. --Robert Horton

Not so good.... March 16, 2010 Cristina Constancio (Sacramento, CA) I should have asked around a little more before I purchased this movie...waste of money...
Year Zero March 16, 2010 Terelon (Florida) I wish I could rate this movie a zero. I recently saw this movie and did not laugh once throughout the whole 90 min. How can a comedy movie not be funny? This movie achieves that goal. Michael Cera playing the same character in every movie he's in deserves a Razzie and he and Jack Black had zero chemistry. Do not waste your time watching this atrocity. It was bland, boring, and a total waste of time. I know good comedy movies and this was not it.
:0l ....stank!.... -0.1 star March 14, 2010 Lady Raven (Brooklyn, New York) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful

Candidate for worst movie I ever watched March 13, 2010 Kenneth R. Cavagnaro (Cincinnati, Ohio) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I would rather be Chinese water tortured for 90 minutes than watch this travesty again. I wasn't even tempted to laugh one time the whole length of this pathetic film. I think the producers of the movie themselves realized how lame their work was and resorted to 10 year old potty humor in a desperate attempt to entice a few chuckles. If your idea of funny is watching Jack Black eating poop, or Michael Cera urinating all over himself, then by all means buy this movie. If I was 10 years old and severely drunk, I might laugh at this movie, but even then I doubt it would be funny.
Absolutely Hilarious!!! March 9, 2010 Brandi S. Evans (Boston, MA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was just about to buy this movie when I saw the average rating for it & I'm disgusted! lol! You have to be a person with absolutely no sense of humor not to find this movie a riot! It is really funny! Jack Black is amazing & plays his role very well! To be honest, all of the characters played their roles exceptionally well! It was very believable, & that added to the humor of the movie! It's great.... Now off to buy my copy!
