I am a big fan of "Project Runway". I pre-ordered the season 6 and finished the whole season in 3 days. It was pretty clear who would be the final 3 from the beginning. But I was still kinda surprised who was out for some episodes. There are some interesting challenges but I have to say I was left uninspired... Another disappointment is that there is no bonus features.. So far my favorite season is still season4. I could watch season 4 over and over again!

I'm a HUGE Project Runway fan and have every other season available on DVD but I will not be purchasing this one. The move to Los Angeles was incongruous with the industry (sorry LA will NEVER outpace New York as the fashion capital of the USA) and the judging suffered tremendously by the frequent absences of 2/3 of the judging "troika" of Heidi Klum, Nina Garcia and Michael Kors. While there were some interesting choices for judges (Christina Aguilera) there were mostly some WTF judges (Lindsay Lohen, REALLY??) who did not contribute well to the judging process. The contestants in particular were unevenly "talented" and it was clear from the beginning who would win. Finally the challenges themselves were odd this season as well. I watched it but mostly in the hopes that it would get interesting and exciting. Seeing Tim Gunn in flip flops on the beach was as exciting as it got I'm afraid. Buy this only if you are a die hard fan and purist who must have all seasons.

When we've gotten down to the top contestants who go to Bryant Park before, it has usually been a bit more scintillating than it is this time. This time the person who wins is the person who should win: the only one who produces an impeccably crafted, cohesive collection which tells a story. This is the number one criteria on any syllabus used in Fashion 101 in every fashion design school, including the Fashion Institute.
What is very good about this show is the contest in each and every episode. There is always a very creative challenge which they all have to meet, with one winning and one being eliminated. There is always a runway show which is great fun. This is followed by critiques by the judges of the worst and best designs in the runway show. This is where you learn the most. You can go to the website and look at the designs again as the runway shows are posted there as well as portfolios for each designer. Another problem with this season is that they did not consistently use Nina Garcia and Michael Kors as judges as they have in the past.
The number one reason contestants are eliminated is because their craftsmanship skills are less than impeccable. The judges can't see sending people with poor construction skills to the major runway show in New York City. The second criteria is being the most creative designer. Very, very few contestants are superb craftsmen who are also first rate creative design talents.
added note: I have managed to see these shows which are local to Canada, Australia and the UK. The format is the same but the local differences are quite striking. Unfortunately, none of these out of country Project Runways or Catwalks are available on DVD yet but if they do come out on DVD, the American viewers will love them.
