Amazon.com You wouldn't know it by watching the Batman movies they collaborated on, but this smart adaptation of John Grisham's novel proves that director Joel Schumacher and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman have some talent when the right project comes along. Schumacher had previously directed Grisham's The Client, and brought equal craft and intelligence to this story about a young Southern attorney (Matthew McConaughey, in his breakthrough role) who defends a black father (Samuel L. Jackson) after he kills two men who raped his young daughter. Sandra Bullock plays the passionate law student who serves as McConaughey's legal aide and voice of conscience in the racially charged drama. Added to the star power of the lead roles is a fine supporting cast, including Kevin Spacey, Ashley Judd, and Oliver Platt. --Jeff Shannon

A TIME TO KILL February 11, 2010 Jane A. Nelson (Wisconsin) This is one of the best movies I have ever seen and the first time I have ever seen Mathew McConaughey in a movie and he is the greatest. I love Samuel L Jackson also but have seen him do a great job before.
classic blue ray movie February 1, 2010 Charles Salvemini (bayville, nj.) i have enjoyed this movie many times over. i read the book three times and watched the movie at least 3 times. now i have captured the movie in BLUE RAY, and added it to my library.
A Time to Kill January 3, 2010 Arnita D. Brown (USA) Old ways die hard... and even now in the fast-changing American South, some old ways die harder than others. It's the lesson learned by Carl Lee Hailey, a Mississippi factory worker, when his ten-year-old daughter is brutally assaulted by two racist thugs on a drunken spree. A Time to Kill is an incredible movie and probably in my opinion is Schumacher's best. McConaughey and Jackson deliver some of their best performances in this movie. A great movie to watch and enjoy.
Excellent! A Time to Kill.... December 31, 2009 Karen A. Murphy (Arizona) This movie, in my humble opinion, is actually BETTER than the book. The film brings John Grisham's characters to magical life in such a manner that it can be watched again and again, with increasing appreciation. Provocative, thrilling, and resplendent....a cast of perfection that dances a tango of suspense....it will be in my permanent library of favorites!
