Refresing change of pace from American Forensic/Crime programming August 8, 2008 Forensic Fan (Texas, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I discovered Waking the Dead on local PBS programming. The stories are compelling and the character development is excellent. The ensemble cast and slower pace allow a more cerebral experience. Certainly a refreshing change from the more "action" driven US programming.
Waking The Dead, Complete Season 1 with Pilot Episode January 27, 2008 Megan L. Beveridge (Melbourne, Victoria Australia) Received the dvd within a few days of ordering in perfect condition. All episodes were excellent. The cast all work well together and play their parts brilliantly. Fantastic show to watch.
What CSI should have been January 23, 2008 Stuart Williams (Fair Oaks, CA USA) As always, the British seem to do crime and procedural police dramas better. Great puzzles with twists and turns, well acted, with good science. Drama at its finest.
Basis for US-Produced Cold Case and CSI's January 7, 2008 George A. (Portland, Oregon USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you want a look at how Cold Case Files and CSI came to be, then obtain the BBC-produced Waking the Dead (Seasons 1 and 2). Absolutely tremendous writing, superb casting and acting, and believable characters that you can relate to. Whereas the US-produced Cold Case, CSI, etc., present us with "cookie cutter" gender leads, the British-produced Waking the Dead is not concerned with the looks as much as the believability of the characters. We were so impressed with these stories and their presentation that we purchased Seasons 3, 4, 5 directly from Amazon.UK, because those seasons are not yet produced for our playback region. We even purchased an "all region" DVD player to watch these. If you want to experience made-for-tv drama the way it should be done, do not deny yourself this experience.

The two sets of "Waking the Dead" are very good. I would give it more stars if there were more. The stories get it a little heavy but I think adults would enjoy it. I don't recommend it for kids. I wish there were more sets. They do use forensics, but more of the psychological profiling used.
