Dated, but hilarious... January 1, 2009 M. K. Montgomery (Omaha, NE USA) It's very obviously made in the 80s, so there are parts that will make you cringe (the music, the hair, the jokes, etc.) Also, I can't imagine Romanians or Transylvanians are very fond of how their country is portrayed. However, Michael Richards is great! So are the monsters, especially the Wolf Man with hypertrichosis.
A movie, definitely not a film November 21, 2008 Michael A. Duvernois (Minneapolis, MN United States) Some films deserve five stars for their brilliance and insightfulness. If that's what you're looking for, what the heck are you doing here? This movie is fun, silly, and very campy. It's actually pretty completely ludicrous. But fun. Heck, it's cheap and you should watch it with friends. With alcohol.
Talk about a bad dream August 2, 2008 Yosuta (arrowfeather, usa) I hadn't watched this film before because I'd been swayed by Leonard Maltin's shortest ever film review on Entertainment Tonight: after bobbing his head to a few seconds of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, he just said, "'Transylvania 6-5000.' Stinks." (IMDB says he said 'Stunk,' but I remember him saying 'Stinks.') I finally rented the DVD after enjoying Jeff Goldblum's performance in "Pittsburgh." If you see "Transylvania 6-5000," I recommend watching "Pittsburgh" if you haven't already, and vice-versa. The director, Rudy De Luca worked on several Mel Brooks films, and at times this feels likes a cross between Brooks' "Young Frankenstein" and Merrie Melodies' "Transylvania 6-5000" Bugs Bunny cartoon from 1963. I laughed more than I did during Brooks' mid-eighties films; I especially appreciated the surgeon who says "you don't lobotomy, I don't lobotoyou" and the newspaper editor's confusion about a Rope Factory. I forgot to listen to the audio commentary before I returned the disc. I wanted to find out more about what DOW chemical company had to do with the film. IMDB mentions DOW funded the film to make use of frozen finances in Yugoslavia.
phone home March 23, 2008 Shane Adam Bassett (australia) classic comedy and so out there it's actually bad. Geena Davis with fangs, yes please and seeing a young Kramer (seinfeld) is cool, he's also funny in Problem Child. I loved this comedy, but it is weird.
80s Horror Fun May 20, 2007 Larry M. Smith (USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Well, if you grew up during the 80s, you might remember this little gem of a comedy/horror film. This film used to play on HBO a lot, during the young years of HBO when it used to be nothing but movies and those who grew up during that time will sure remember it. Richards saves this movie a lot when the movie drags (fans of Richards will sure to pick it up im sure) and fans of Davis will enjoy it too , a very young Davis. Anyways, very funny and love the movie very much and good for that change of effect of gore to comedy on Halloween. Recommended!!
