Amazon.com Savage Steve Holland follows up his cult teen hit Better Off Dead with more madcap absurdity. Forget the plot, which takes frustrated cartoon prodigy John Cusack to Nantucket to woo aspiring singer-songwriter Demi Moore and take on the town's weasely real estate developer and his bullying son in a sailing regatta. For Savage Steve, the "revenge of the misfits" story is merely an excuse to unleash his arsenal of gags. Think of it as an Airplane for the teen set, punctuated by wacky twists (hyperactive Bobcat Goldthwait rampaging in a Godzilla suit), demented animated interludes, and the world's ugliest dog. The cartoonish punchlines don't always deliver, but the rat-a-tat delivery keeps them coming so fast it doesn't matter, and Cusack holds it all together with his winning presence. And, refreshingly, this is one PG rating that actually means no foul language or sex. --Sean Axmaker

Awesome I love it October 7, 2008 I love John Cusack movies. Am I the only one that thinks he kind of got the short end of the stick on this acting thing. He is by far the best Actor Hollywood has. give me a break. Incredible God gifted amazing talent. I think needs to be noticed, appreciated, and honored.
Adolescence nostalgia at its best August 23, 2008 obviously this is one of those great movies that my generation grew up watching on saturdays and this DVD cleans it up and makes the picture brighter and even that much more enjoyable. there aren't any "making of" featurettes, but lets face it, you want to watch this movie and those special features really aren't needed for such a great '80s movie.
One Crazy Summer August 12, 2008 John Cusack and Demi Moore are entertaining in this light comedy from the 80s. Bob Goldwait does some wacky stuff including dress up in a Godzilla suit and cause panic and destruction that will earn a few laughs. Moore plays a struggling singer as in "No Small Affair" that can't seem to get the money together in time to keep her house. Their zany group must find a boat and get it ship shape to enter the Regatta to win the trophy to trade for Moore's house so it won't be plowed under and made into Condos. This is of course by a underhanded rich family of snobs that have won the Regatta for years. If you are in the mood for some 80s style comedy this is a decent bet. Not quite the firepower of a "Ferris Bueller", but certainly worth a look. Good quality DVD with decent replayability. If you enjoyed this catch "Summer Rental" and "Better Off Dead".

Great movie April 13, 2008 What a classic movie. How can you not dig such a funny movie? I think you maybe need to be a true Gen X-er (I am...will be 35 later this year) to fully appreciate its humor. It's not funny in the same way as say Weird Science, Sixteen Candles or Breakfast Club (other great movies by the way), but it still has its moments. This is more that summer before you go to college or go find your place in the 'real world'. This is less a "I can name every character in the movie because I know people like them" and more just a sit back and laugh movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. How can it be taken seriously? It has the immortal Bobcat in it. It's even mostly family friendly.
A Great Cult Classic April 9, 2008 This is one of my all time favorite videos. I recently bought this to share with my teenage son. It was also an opportunity for me to enjoy some nostalgia.
Each scene has some kind of gag that will at least make you giggle or outright laugh. I was surprised to see my son's reaction. Here is your typical teenager with a sophisticated taste in his movies. He was laughing so hard, I thought he would pee himself.
You can tell a lot of the actors in this film were just starting out and you can see some of their acting skills are stiff or forced. Regardless, you can see all of the actors are having fun.
I don't know how to explain it but this is one of those movies that has a certain magic to it. When you are done watching you'll be smiling, feeling good, and shouting one liners.
