    5 out of 5 stars Scrumptrulescent!   July 30, 2008
Not only is DB Sweeney a Great Actor, Great American (he sent me coffee while I was in Iraq), OK guitar player, but he has done an awesome job directing this one. I want to thank him for coming to Iraq to show us this movie. I pre-ordered it from Amazon, received it on July 22nd here in Iraq and have watched it three times already. I have caught something new each time I watched it. We were laughing through some of the parts I missed the first time, then I watched it with headphones the second time.
It has a true story line, not a Hollywood story line and great music (well except when he butchered Blue Collar Man, a Styx song).
I highly recommend this movie, it will be one I watch again and again.

    3 out of 5 stars 3 stars for McGinley alone...(DVD review)   July 19, 2008
DB Sweeney first-time wrote, directed and produced this mid-life crisis film starring my Scrubs favorite JCM. The film has languished in the circuit for two years but finally got a DVD release this month.

The film plays out as three small town men take a road trip to temporarily escape their problems and woes. To facilitate their escape they journey to a college bowl a few states away. Instead of driving directly there, they encounter their problems with themselves and each other through a series of misadventures. DB Sweeney also stars with JCM as one of the three men. As stated by DB in his online plugs, festival blurbs and the DVD case itself, it is all about friendship.

Regarding how this film is being advertised though, there are numerous issues. The DVD does include the "alternate" trailers when it was called Dirt Nap, and they showed a different styled version of the movie than what played now (trailers are notorious for that). The cover art is very misleading, as one customer already noticed the body that JCM's head is on - is not his. Moira Kelly is headlined on the credits and on the cover (in a sexy outfit) but she has only a couple scenes, as does Ed Harris who has 1 minute of screen time. Sadly for Paul Hipp, the third guy in their triumvirate, he is not even listed on the DVD, but has the most screen time. The deleted scenes and out takes were funny, and DB's commentary provides lots of first-time director notes on what it takes to make an indie film (use friends and crew to fill, etc.).

There are several laugh out loud moments, and a great deal of scenes most 30/40-something men can understand. JCM makes the movie, and even while the film is falling apart towards the end, he still manages to salvage a reformed gambler performance that is believable. Lots of drinking, lots of 'shrooms, a classic car, a Hooters bar and lots of man talk; makes for a good background film while playing poker maybe.

5 out of 5 stars Friendship and Laughter   June 1, 2008

I saw "Two Tickets to Paradise" at a film festival in Hawaii - and I thought it was the best feature movie of the entire festival. It's a great story about the friendship of high school superstars coping with less than spectacular middle age lives. This movie makes you laugh so hard, you leave the theatre felling good and haunted with memories that make you smile for weeks to come. If there is a moral to this movie, it is the value of friendship throughout life. See it and feel good all over.

    5 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Film   May 23, 2008
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

This is a gem of a film, directed and written with heart and truth, at times it brought tears to my eyes, and in the next scene, made me laugh, as I have done much the same as the characters so deftly drawn by D.B. Sweeney. Anytime, an actor can take both sides of the camera, and craft a film so entertaining and rich, this is a film and director to be noted.
Though the film concentrates on the three buddie's embraked on a life changing road trip, it is also noteworthy for the fact, that finally a director has given the veteran actor John McGinley the starring role he has so richly deserved after many many films. John's performance is bravura, going from alpha male bravado to being absolutely cratered as he realizes what is important in life, which is this: the friends we keep are the "family" we lean on. That is a universal theme that bears truth. Five Stars, you won't be disappointed.
