Product Description A grieving doctor is being contacted by his late wife through his patients near death expereinces. Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 08/01/2006 Starring: Kevin Costner Linda Hunt Run time: 104 minutes Rating: Pg13 Director: Tom Shadyac
Amazon.com "Belief gets us there," explains nun Linda Hunt to grieving widower Kevin Costner, an emergency room doctor whose ordered world is startled by "messages" from his dead wife. She's talking about the journey from life to death, but it describes the doctor's road from fact to faith equally well as he puzzles out the otherworldly events of his life. Costner's mourning comes off less lost and sad than simply emotionless and inert, but he finds good support from Kathy Bates as his sassy neighbor. Her appearances, along with a few startling horror-movie-type shocks, energize a film otherwise shrouded in loss, grief, and the hushed mood of supernatural spookiness. It's like a fusing of Ghost, The Sixth Sense, and The Mothman Prophecies, a New Age melodrama in a sentimental key that works through a rather contrived mystic mystery to a glowing climax. This is less a ghost story than a modern twist on the old-fashioned miracle. --Sean Axmaker

What life is made of -- October 30, 2008 Life is all about miracles like the one in this movie. I don't think we even realize they are happening. But sometimes, as for Dr. Darrow, we do get hit over the head. I loved this movie because it is not over the top supernatural. This is real stuff - moving gently beside us at times. Of course, Darrow got a real dose but it was necessary for him to listen. Life is magic, sometimes coming at us with a force we cannot control. Yet, this was still only a light paranormal glued together with depth. Kevin Costner was brilliant. Kathy Bates, she could act in my movie anytime if they ever make my novel into a movie. That too is a light supernatural. A Breath Floats By: An Illusion for the Soul What I enjoyed most about the movie is that it has not ceased to move me, I watched it in 2002, 2004 and again today 2008, feeling the same impact.
What an ending! October 12, 2008 I adored this movie. Kevin Costner was awesome and the ending is the best I've seen in a movie in a long time.
Inspiring October 7, 2008 Simply inspiring. As a parent of a child who died from cancer, it was difficult to watch from the beginning. However, I looked beyond the initial reaction to see the spiritual side of this great movie. I'm glad I struggled to watch it because it brought me into a different light. The performances were fantastic.
