Amazon.com This is the story of the rise and fall of one of the legendary forces of warfare. During its brief existence, the Afrika Korps forced the Allied forces ranged against it into a for war of attrition, thereby cementing its place in the annals of military history. The Afrika Korps will be forever associated with its brilliant commander Erwin Rommel, the Desert Fox of legend, whose masterfully-executed battle plans gained the respect of even his enemies. This programme combines superb footage from the German and Allied archives with comment and analysis by some of the UK's leading military authorities to tell the story of a proud force which finally met its match at the Mareth Line in Tunisia in March 1943.This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

Excellent DVD on the history of the German Afrika Korps (Deutsches Afrikakorps) October 6, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This particular DVD from "Scorched Earth series 2" provides an excellent account of the Axis forces who fought bravely in North Africa with the famous commander Erwin "the Desert Fox" Rommel during World War II. At first I wasn't too sure about buying this DVD because it hadn't a single review, but since I already own (and enjoyed) a number of the other Scorched Earth DVD's I figured I'd give this one a chance also. And I'm so glad that I did since I very much enjoyed watching this one and I know I'll be watching it again and again. If you are like me (interested in WWII military history and/or the Campaign in North Africa specifically) than this is a must have for your personal DVD collection. The footage is great, the commentary is spot-on with some very interesting insight provided by well respected authorities from the Royal Military Academy. Probably 15% of the footage on this DVD I have seen before, but the other 85% is brand new to me (and I watch a ton of these videos). It covers the creation of the Afrika Korps and it's originally intended military objectives. The DVD also provides order of battle info covering the specific divisions, the amount of troops and equipment they had, info on the tactics used, specific battle details, and some very good insight on Rommel himself including details on his personal character and his creative military mind. Also included is some very good info on the opposing Allied forces (brief order of battle details, commanders, strategy, equipment, etc). While only so much info can be packed into an hour long DVD, I found this program to be comprehensive while still providing a good level of detail. This program as with all of the "Scorched Earth" series DVD's is of excellent quality especially when compared to some of the other World War II documentary DVD's on the market (beware of bargain-bin DVD's that appear to be the same video content simply re-packaged with different graphics/illustrations). You really can't go wrong with anything from the Scorched Earth Series and as I wrote above if you are interested in this subject than this is a must own DVD absolutly worth your time and your money!
